Midwest Flooding - Anyone else?

I figure this should go here, as it is where the majority of my time is spent.

Last night, we got an additional 2 inches of rain on top of an inch and a half on Sunday. Because of this, the water has completely flooded my house. Water is still rising, and is about 1/8 inch from being in my house. My two sheds have over a foot of water in them. The road has water going across it. (I live in the township of a large city - Toledo, rather Sylvania, Ohio) They told us the flood wasn't going to be near as bad as the flood we endured in 2008, so we listened, and I leave for work, water not that high. I got home, this is just as bad as that flood. My lawnmower, dryer, and lots of supplies that were in my shed are ruined. I hope that it will go down soon, however at this rate, there will be water in my house - for the first time ever, and my house is over 60 years old.

Now, I have it bad. However, my brother has it worse. He doesn't have as much water in his yard, but a few years ago his basement had 6 feet of water in it, everything was ruined. After that, he decided to try and fix the basement from flooding. Last year, the river (Blanchard river) flooded again, and no water got in his basement. So, he decided to turn it into his den. However, that was short lived, as it now sits with over 7 feet of water in it.

Anyway, I may not contribute much information, but I am just informing you that if I am not on the next several days, I am helping clean out my house/sheds and yard as well as my brothers.

I don't have a digi cam, but I got pictures with a disposabe camera, and I will see if I can get a scanner and scan them on here.

Anway, thanks to those who have read this.

EDIT: I guess this is on topic more than I originally thought. Survivng a flood..
NOT MY PICTURE - But it is off of the local new site. I am not sure where this is in relation to me, but here is just one of many on the site.

That's tough tough duty you're pulling right now man...I live in Temperance MI and see and hear all about it.
Good luck.

In part, urban areas that didn't flood in years past are flooding due to increase in surface area covered by houses, concrete, and blacktop = faster runoff.

We missed the worst last night. It was a big swath between Sandusky, OH and Grand Rapids, running SW to NE. As it was, we had "localized" flooding on Moday/Tueday. Not very "localized" if its your basement full of water.

Not my basement, the water is all over my yard. I don't have a basement. it is my brother who has the basement full of water.

Water is getting closer to coming in my house. Everything in my sheds is pretty much done for. The water is still going up, and it stopped raining over 12 hours ago.

Thanks for the support, guys. I am going to try and get through this without worrying to much.

Maybe later, we got 14 more inches of snow yesterday. However, I live up on top of a hill.:D Best of luck, I have been in that position in the past.

Just a quick update - The water is now higher than it has EVER been before. it is on my back porch, and it put my hot water tank out. It is STILL rising. Our furnace doesn't work either; the water is in the ducts. You can see it, it is about a foot from being inside the main house.

Prayers to you and your family out there TheGame. Maybe this is the 'change' in the economy all those pinheads in WDC are speaking of to stimulate the economy! I would love for the people's representatives to fork out the cash, not wait 6 weeks checks, to folks in your position right now. You need help and fellow Americans will not begrudge you our tax dollars. Document it and blog it until the money starts flowing in like the river did my friend!

Smoke sent. We're still under a Flood Warning/Advisory but it hasn't got that bad yet. Our flood plains and low lying areas are a hair above capacity but not affecting major roads yet and not damaging homes.

I have to head out to the cottage this Sunday to check the water level. Not that I can do anything about it if its flooded. I just need to see what kind of repairs I'm looking at.

The Eel River runs through my backyard...I have been watching it rise over the past few days, it is rapidly approaching the highest I have seen it since living here. It is current about 15 yards from the house.

I have pretty much lost everything in my shed. The back porch has the Hot Water tank and washer and dryer. I am not sure if they work yet, I can't try until the water is down, but it is only slowly going down. The road is now just barely visible through the water. The furnace I can't turn on, and the temp in my house is about 50*. Really chilly in there.

I will let you all know if everything works when it is completely receded.

PS. There are bluegill swimming around in my yard. The water is brown, but every once in a while you can see a shadow, and I netted a small one right off my front porch.

Sorry to hear about your losses. It's bad enough these days without Mother Nature throwing out a curve. Prayers your way.

Thanks.

Update on the situation -

The water usually goes down an inch an hour, but this time it is going down only around an inch every 4 hours so far. My Hot Water Tank still works, which I am thankful for. However, I lost the lawnmower, and the water got to a couple of guns in the shead that were in cases. I believe they should still shoot, but I am not positive on that. One is a 20 ga. Stevens (I believe this is the model, I couldn't get it out) as well as a Remington 870 Express (Backup to my other 870).

I am hopeul my pool pump will still work, as it was submerged last year as well and it worked afterward.

All in all, I think I got out fairly cheap compared to my neighbor who lost his whole garage of wood, and a couple of powertools on the floor. (In all fairness - he had the chance to get them off of the ground, I offered to do it for him, he told me they would be fine)

My cats are stranded on top of my shed though, and they won't let us grab them. We took them food and water + milk.

My prayers are with you. I was born and raised in NW Ohio. Lots of warweways there. The Tiffin,St. Joe and Maumee Rivers as well as Fish Creek,Lick Creek and Beaver Creek.

Fished all of them plus trapped some. It will take a while for the water to recede.
