Got an e-mail from Don today. The knife will be $300 and take 4 months plus or minus a month to make. Great price! The wait is ok, I will be able to save money and buy it cash. I should get it mid to late January 2003. The line is getting longer.
LOVE it Bill O.!! That's a model 3 frame? Yep that line is going to continue to grow. I'm glad I went ahead and commited to the large model 2 framelock. As I said should be ready right before Christmas since it is going to be a Christmas present from me to...................ME!
Those prices will be going up I suspect. Kit has made auto's based on the model 4 becauseI HAD two of them at one time yes had.....as in no longer got. They were as slick as owl dookie. If I'm not mistaken Kit has said it took about three times as long to make an auto model 4 as it took to make a regular model 4. If I remember correctly these were a couple hundred above the cost of a standard 4 so Kit was losing money making the auto's!
Anyway, Mike O. is a name to reckoned with now and on down the road. I tell you, I LOVE that model 2!!
yep artsig1, that is model 3 frame with a Carson model 21 'style' blade. it is remarkable in its fit & finish and i think it helps showcase Mike's ability to accomodate his customers.
i love seeing Mike get this well deserved praise, and it reflects on Kit as well.
Art,
Based on your comments mostly since know you can separate the "wheat from the chaff" as far as knives go ordered Mike's Mod. 3 w/hand-rubbed D2 blade & Carbon Fibre scales yesterday - arrived today and ....
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! FREAKIN' ROCKS! He is GOOD!!!! Have 3 older Carsons & Mike is there with Kit - great teacher & great student - still have to give nod to Kit but Mike is oh so close. Have it sitting next to JW Smith 30V/CF, presentation Terzuola & DDR
"AFTERMATH" - it holds its own with those very well. Thanks for all those recommendations - would not have ordered one this soon otherwise & missed out a real treat.
My extra small Model 2 (2 5/8" S30V blade) came today. It has black carbon fiber scales with blue accents and no bolsters. The level of Obenauf's fit and finish is absolutely second to none and his prices are barely higher than those of high end manufacturers like William Henry. It's hard not to turn around and order something else from him again. As soon as I get my digital camera together I will post pictures of my new Obenauf.
