Many of you know Milan has a great eye for design and forges his own damascus. He has a workshop in Slovakia.

I recently did something with one of his pieces that was rather outside of the blade's design, and damaged it quite a lot. I sent it to Milan, but alot happened in between.

The knife was seized by Austria, took a tour of the EU, made it to the workshop, and in a roundabout way eventually made it back home.

Milan could have called me many names for what I did, but instead he fixed the blade. Not only did he fix it, he did it in a way that made it quite like new. I am beyond impressed with the workmanship, and he didn't ask for a penny in return (although he will get more than a penny if I have my way).

For any of you on the fence, don't hesitate to do business with Milan. It is one thing to have talent, and quite another to have talent and be humble and respectful. Milan is all of this.

This is definitely in the "good" part of the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Thanks for the review, Jarrett. I have seen Milan's stuff around here for a while, and it is nice to know that he makes good stuff and stands behind his work.

Here is the knife when new:

In the interest of full disclosure, I abused the knife... the word abuse used in this sense in the harshest terms.

I used a mallet to get it stuck in a piece of dried oak as thick as my thigh, and then when it got stuck I tried to use the knife handle to pick up the oak and smashed the oak on the ground. This resulted in >100 lbs of lateral force on a thin cross section of steel.

A few learning moments. Suffice to say, the problem was with me and not the steel.

The damage:

When I showed this to Milan, he offered me a new knife or a refund. I immediately rejected all offers of payment/knives from him on principle. He sent me back this message:

I think with that I can do something :)

Honestly, in my mind I knew the knife was probably ruined, or that it would come back like an ice pick.

Here it is back to me with a sheath by WildmanH (Heber Ellsworth).

I am impressed with the fix. Although it is more curved, it appears like new in hand, like a bowie with "sori" built into the design. I am quite fond of the new profile. Short of repeat stupidity in a porch lab, I expect the knife to be able to handle anything I might be able to throw at it in real world use, and happily look forward to the years of service Milan has granted to me in what would otherwise have been a broken blade.

Thanks for the pictures and the story. He did a great job restoring it. I'd cherish it that much more because of its unique history and memories.

Stories like this are why I want a custom knife. Milan Mozolic really did stand behind his work and went above and beyond. Most Excellent!

Just total awesomeness PT!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Joe

PS.....I would pay big money to see a vid of you destroying that poor knife!!
😬😬

Thanks for the comments!

I was able to carry the knife while on a hike today, something that wouldn't have been enjoyable without Milan's excellent service and work.

I've eyed a few of his pieces real hard over the years. This kind of feedback cements my interest. Thanks. I appreciate it.
