Mild abuse

The only knife I "abuse" is my Gerber gator machete; I often use it to clear ground brush, swinging to and fro, digging the edge into the dirt, dinging off rocks and such,,but that's because I simply just don't like it, so anytime a have to do some "machete-ing" where there is a risk of chipping (ground, around ricks or chain link fence, etc), that's my go to in order to spare my tram..
All my other Knives I use as Knives, and bring/use the appropriate tools for other tasks.

I have in the past used the but end of my knife to pop open a beer, and actually just did this morning because I grabbed a beer as soon as I walked into the garage, never made it into the house before popping the cap, but save for work, 99/100 times I have one of these in my pocket just for that task;
I own around 10 I think, in different colors, so I pretty much try to match them with whatever EDC I'm carrying that day; an added accessory knife for my "real" knife.

I use my EDC for much of the same, OP, and I wouldn't call it abuse, mild or otherwise... ;)

Touche'

My Cadet has cleaned my fingernails more than it's ever cut.
I've actually used the wire strippers a few times too.

I do understand the OP's point, though. There was a time when I'd happily use my knife to poke, pry, scrape, etc. and toss it back in my pocket without a second thought... until I needed it to do some actual cutting. Dings, dents, rolls, chips make slicing a lot more difficult than it needs to be. And sometimes, like a tongue worrying a canker sore, the hand bothers over nicks, burrs and gouges in the handle/frame.

Anyhoo, I eventually wised up and found a better way, a better tool, and put a SAK in my pocket. I prefer the Pioneer for EDC, and let me tell ya, that awl is such a handy tool; I use it far more than I originally anticipated (probably more than the blade itself.) To be perfectly honest, my Pioneer is more than capable for all of my pocket knife needs, but I still carry and use a modern one-hander daily as well. SAK is pretty much the perfect companion for any knife, imo.
