As the title states, I did a mild mod to my Cam 2. Have had it done for quite some time now, just getting around to posting.

This is what it looked like when I got it. As you can see, mildly used:

I purchased it, because I wanted a solid tang 2:

Starting the mod. All the components to strip it with:

Placed masking tape on both sides, and poked holes through the tape for the screws:

Put some old scales on it:

Cut the excess off with an X-Acto knock off:

Slathered some stripper on it:

In just a few minutes, it started coming off:

Tape off:

Used a Sharpie, and made a resist on the edge:

Placed the blade in a big 'ol glass of hot apple cider vinegar:

After just 20 minutes, she was nice and dark, however, you can see the inconsistencies:

16.png

Steel wooled it off, and you can see the discoloration. This is not in the steel, it's where I didn't get all the coating off:

17.png

Sanded it clean. Although it doesn't really look like it, I used a sanding block:

18.png

Decided to go a different route, and did a mustard patina. Dabbed on the mustard with a paper towel:

Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then cleaned it, and reapplied several coats of mustard. Then, I added some Brazilian ironwood scales, made by Tommythewho. I really liked the grain of this wood, and the consistent look of the 2 scales. Here's what she looks like now:

Other side. See how well the scales match each other. I really like how the blade turned out as well. I like the mottled look:

22.png

Straight on:

Out of the sun. Was trying to show the mottled look a bit better, but didn't really work as well as I thought it would:

24.png

Then, I purchased a leather sheath for it. Decently made, at a hell of a good price:

Reverse:

Not made perfectly by any means, but good enough, and holds the blade nice and tight. The leather used for the firesteel holder is a bit thin:

I was going to make my own firesteel for it. I bought the steels, and Worldwood was kind enough to send me a few pieces of wood. However, I got lazy, and a firesteel made by Twisted Limb went for sale on another forum. It has Bocote wood for the handle, and the grain of it matches the Brazilian ironwood scales nicely:

Like I said, I was wanting a solid tang 2, but also wanted a 2 with more of a traditional look. I believe I achieved that goal, and look forward to using my "new" blade.

Thanks for looking.

Awesome set up Warrior! You went bushcafty instead of tactical this time. Like it!

Those handles are beautiful. All Tommy's stuff is but the straight grain of the wood really stands out. The leather and wood look great together.

Tanks brudda. I loved the grain. I waited patiently for just the right set.
Very nice Warrior.
Thanks man.

Good looking 2, Dubz. Also nice to see pics of a Cam 2....I have one and thought the blade shape was a little different from the newer KB 2's; it's got a little bit of belly to it - and your pics confirm it. Really like what you did with the mustard and the scales are gorgeous. Are you gonna put some liners under them? I need to make some wood scales for my Cam 2. The stock Camillus Grivory is too thick for my less than Dubz sized mitts.
Oh - your pictures are terrible.....bly good! Thanks for givin' us a peep.

Thanks man. I have seen the blade both ways on the 2, more belly, and straighter. Liners is actually a great idea. Red would really make it pop.

Turned out Great! Your pics and how too also.
Thanks man, appreciate it.

Each part complements the whole! Has such a nice organic feel to it now, hard to believe it's the same knife really. I love it!👍

Thanks man. That's definitely the look I was going for. I have a tendency to go for the more tactical type mod usually.

Dubz that rig is so classy you could wear it to a high-end business meeting or a formal dinner/ball. And like you and Mike said, I also noticed the slight belly on the Cam as well. At first I thought it might have been a bit of an illusion of the light but lo, my hunch was correct. All class Dubz. Bravo..

Oh yeah, may I ask where the sheath came from?

Nice mods Dubz. Those ironwood scales really set the blade apart. I'm gonna have to break down one of these days order a set. The matching firesteel looks good too. Good stuff!

Thanks man. I love those scales. Like I said, I waited very patiently for just the right set. Also, after I bought that sheath, I saw another from the same maker, and bought it too, haha. I ended up liking this one better. I may sell the other, not sure yet.
