Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about the steel you use for an axe head if you are gonna forge weld a bit of steel for the edge. Will construction grade steel work? Also where is a good place to buy steel for this purpose? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, A36 or construction steel will work if you forge weld in the high carbon bit. If you going to use the mild steel I would try to find a local scrap yard or steel supplier to save on shipping.

Thats one of the traditinal methods of construction. Wrap & weld with a high carbon bit..A piece of file, leaf spring or similar woorks well for the bit..A file looks cool when you leave the teeth intact..
