Military 2 (I know this comes up A LOT)

From what I have read before in other threads about the Military 2 model.

The backlog of other knives has been why they haven't gotten around to the Military 2.

The Military can't be improved upon... with one very big exception: it needs to accommodate tip-up carry. That was its only design flaw, and there is no apparent reason for it. I own a standard one and one that has a tip-up mod. One is great, the other literally perfect.
Other than that, don't change the Military. Just design another knife. :D

A couple things I don't get when these Military 2 threads pop up:

1. Why people think there wouldn't be room for two Military models in Spyderco's catalog. Seeing improvements or changes to the original design come to light doesn't necessarily mean the classic model would be discontinued. Looking at the Sage series, Lightweight Manix 2, and Native variants points to the potential in having both versions available. Let's encourage this kind of diversity and innovation!

2. Why people always downplay the changes that folks would like to see. Sure, what's been selling thus far works, but it doesn't invalidate other folks' preferences, nor is the existing configuration "better". For example, just because some people accept or even prefer the Military's solitary tip-down clip position doesn't mean tip-up carry is needless, less convenient, slower, or ill-suited to its design. To wit, it can't be argued that anyone is slower at retrieving, opening, or manipulating a knife when the clip resides contrary to your preference; it isn't fact, unless you're speaking for yourself. (If you can't tell, I am in favor of tip-up carry. :p)

No right, no wrong; just different. I would love to see a Military 2 with a four-way clip and an ambidextrous lock. It would look great on the same page as the current model. It would also look great in my hand and pocket.

I don't necessarily want a Military 2, but I would like to see a "Resilience with a choil." I'd be fine with it still being 8Cr13MoV as long as it has a round hole instead of being a Byrd.

I love the flipping and perfect pivot of the big-bladed Resilience, but the ergonomics on the choiled models are just much better.

there are dozens of knives with larger blades and handles that are tip up

yeah, and they all take that one more step to draw and open than the same knife carried tip down would ;)

:p

Hell, I still like carrying slipjoints, so I don't know why I always go on the anti tip up military side just because it's slower to open. I honestly would not mind being drilled for four way.

However people wanting saber grinds, beefier tips, etc make my gag reflex go into full swing.

So, my full thoughts on the process is that four way clips and an enlarged lanyard hole wouldn't hurt. However, changing the lock, blade profile and/or grind, WOULD hurt, as those are all key to the heart of the military.

Does anyone actually have recent news of anyone even mentioning the bolt lock for the military? As far as I can tell, everyone is going off a quote from Sal from 1999, in which he said it would be out in a year or two.... Fourteen years later people still talk about it like it's supposed to happen soon, haha... Unless I've missed recent word on this, which is very possible.
