Military as an EDC?

Hello all,

I thought I had it all wrapped up. I was going to get an Endura with the FRN handles, but then I got to play with the Military. That is a smooth knife. But does anyone use it as an EDC? It is larger than the Endura and the Endura was about as big as I wanted to go, so does anyone have any info on carrying it EDC?

Also, I have never had a knife of that quality and price. Does anyone worry about losing it?

So, I guess all I need is an opinion on the utility of using the military as an EDC.

Thanks,

Garrett

Bonjour,

the C36 got a very slim profile and is not as heavy as other knives of this side (but plenty as strong!!!)
You forget it as soon as you clip it to you pocket, cargo pocket or waistband !

I carries mine a lot, even in the city.

The C36 once clipped is really secure to your body or pocket.
I won't worry about losing it. Some people use them everyday in ranches or in military operations, and I never heard any complaint about losing this knife.

Check the Mili review at jungletraining. Jeff has been using it really hard !

I use my Military for EDC. It has far exceeded my expectations of what a production folder could ever accomplish. The only downside I see is that the Military can ride a little uncomfortably in a front jeans pocket, unless you dedicate the pocket solely to its use. The large size of the knife, coupled with the aggressively grooved thumb ramp, can scratch up your hand when fishing change from the bottom of your pocket. Other than that, it’s perfect.

If you’ve read my recent review of the Military, you know that I have no worries about losing it. I actually tried to ruin or lose it for years, and was not able to do so. It’s a VERY secure and strong knife. If the size is right for you, I’d go for it. The Military is one of those one-time purchases that you never regret.

I use the military as an EDC. It´s a big knife, but you can carry it very well in your pocket. It´s not as heavy as other knives.

I use a PE Military as an EDC. Just started to actually. I was carrying an SS Police and the Military is lighter. It does everything I need it to do.

I've been carrying the Military as my EDC for more than a year now, and haven't come across any one knife that can take its' place.....except for a new S30V Millie, of course.

IMO, the full flat grind is where the Military shines as a utility blade. I've used my Millies to cut everything from vegetables in the kitchen to rubber hose and manila rope at work. I say Millies with an 's', because I have two of them....did have three until I sold off my PE awhile back. :( I EDC my SE Military for work and my CE for non-work. I just don't feel comfortable with this Spydie close at hand.

If you need a little more convincing on the Military, check out these reviews;

If you decide on the Millie and find that it is a little big for your pocket, you can always get a custom leather sheath for it from Vess.

With the Military, you will not be disappointed. ;)

I have carried one almost everyday for the past 2 years. It carries light,I feel an endura more than the Military. Its steel holds up about 2 to 3 times better than the Endura. It also fits my hand perfectly,so does the Endura but I love the finger choil on the Military.I am not saying I don't like the Endura,I do,carried one for years but the Military is just a better blade and for twice as much as an Endura it should be.

I've been using the Military as my EDC for the last 2 years.

Great knife. Cuts well, great lockup, very light and comfortable. I have no complaints. Buy yourself a Military, you will like it.

The military might be a tad large, but the light weight, and the blade shape & grind makes it a great EDC. Also, the 440V steel cuts very aggressively.
I can't wait for the paramilitary.

Two words: Hell, yes! I've owned a Miltary since the early days of its life ('98), and it is the only knife that has NEVER left my EDC rotation. I won't repeat what everyone has already said about the knife, but I will give you my personal reasons for carrying it almost daily:

1. Good blade shape. Pointy enough for close work, sufficient belly for most other cutting chores
2. Very flat. The nested liner makes the knife relatively thin, so even though it is a good size knife, it rides well in my pockets, even in kinda tight jeans.
3. Very strong. As I said, I've EDC'ed a Military for over 5 years now, without a single problem. No blade play, nothing has fallen off.

You will get every pennies' worth above what you would pay for an FRN Endura.

As far as worrying about using/losing a knife in this price range, just wait. In two or three years, the Millie will be one of your "cheap" knives. Eight years ago, I stressed over carrying my then expensive ($70!) mini AFCK. Now, I don't give a second thought about dropping a $200+ knife in my pocket when I leave the house; for a while, I even carried a Sebenza around, as many on this forum do. Give it time, you'll get used to it. :D

Klesk you are gorgeous !! ;D

You are sooo right !

The Military is a jewel on the long run !

cheers

The Military is terrific as an EDC, but the handle is just a little too long for my preference. 5" would be better than 5.5, but that is strictly nit picking. If you don't lose other clip knives, you won't lose this one. Shop around and make sure you get the newest with S30V instead of 440V. Again, just nit picking, as either is stellar steel.

I have decided to go ahead and get the Military. Since I am in the Marines and I have nothing but pockets on my everyday uniform I will be fine. I was a little concerned about the handle size and drawing attention to myself with it, but since I try not to go to crowded cities where they dont like such things, I will be OK. I have been following the prices on EBAY and I am looking for the new steel blade. I am going to a few shops this next weekend to see if I can find a good price. After reading what all of you have said and the reviews that were posted online, it seems like the knife for me.

Thank you again and hopefully within a week or so, I will have it!!

Call Mike at New Graham knives.I bet hes got one in stock and its a good price at 98.30.PH 276-326-1166

when I'm wearing BDUs, the millie clips IWB with the clip under/across the loop to right of centre. Sits right inside the pelvis for me at least.

Jeans fits in front/right or rear iwb/vertical on any pants.

Thinking I'll get a neck rig for it when I get it mod'ed in a week. SC_Rebel(Ron) will be putting a glowring in the backspacer, then it's off to eric for a rig.

I did win an auction on ebay for a PE military. I am hoping to have it in my hot little hands by the end of the week. Very excited about this. Cant wait to see it.

I lost mine a couple of weeks ago. Made me sick. It was my favorite EDC knife. I hope whomever found it takes good care of it. :(

I'm planning on buying a replacement in s30v steel. Going Spydie shopping tomorrow as a matter of fact.

My search for as near as perfect an EDC as I can reasonably expect, ended with the Millie a month or two ago (thanks Buzzbait:) ) I'm a bit leery of carrying it in the front pocket however. I reckon there is a small, very small chance of it opening in there (say when jumping down off the back of a truck or scrambling over obstacles when firefighting). Pretty close to the femoral artery right there. Hey, call me paranoid but don't call me late for lunch.

Mine stays in the back right pocket of jeans or IWB in shorts.
