Military ATS-34

Benchmade AFCK. Don't know a lot about it. Try posting on the Benchmade subforum and they should be able to help you out.

Here's some new photos

I would love to try one of those ATS-34 Military models in full SE up against the 440V in SE. Because the 440V in SE was one of their all time best serrated Spyderco folders in my opinion>> and I've used quite a few full Spyderedged folders over the years. I sure wish at some point they would at least do a Sprint Run of the C-36 Military models in full SE again.

Back in those days it was just the opposite of what it is now>> because back in those days almost any Spyderco folder you could get in full SE. Now it seems like only a privileged few get to shine in SE.

The AFCK has some funny history... Supposedly, it was designed as an improvement to the Spyderco Police, not the Military, by a guy named Chris Caracci. You can search that name and AFCK to dig up some more history on it - he used to post on this forum.

I think as Sal has said over on Spyderco's own forum, the negative blade angle on the AFCK was very un-Benchmade at the time it was released... Even without the opening hole it's clear where the design influences came from.

The Axis lock versions were pretty good too...somehow I let go of my M390 blade version from a 2011 limited run. Still have my 204P Military though, so I'm still all good for big 4" slicing folders. :)

Finally bought Gold Membership.

Does anyone have an idea what my military would go for today?

What about one in 440 steel?

Finding any Spyder from the ATS-34 era for the most part is a nice find. Even the more popular models that were made with ATS-34 are getting tough to find. Like I said in an earlier post both ATS-34 and ATS-55 both are great in full Spyderedge. And both of them were slightly better than average in PE as well.

It kind of blows me away because I distinctly remember during the early to mid 90s ATS-34 was considered a super premium cutlery steel just like S30V was also considered in the same league when it came out in about 2002 or thereabout.

Even Benchmade made a lot of premium models in the 90s with ATS-34. It was popular up till about 2002 or thereabout. Because when S30V and VG-10 both came to town the party was just about over for ATS-34 and 55 both.

I used to have a C-36 Military in 440V. The 440V is also known as S60V and is made by Crucible. The Military model I had with 440V was a full Spyderedged unit and it was like the equivalent of a "Salt Water Crocodile" of a knife. the 440V blade steel is still one of my ultimate favorites for serrated blades. Now it is a literal "monster" to sharpen. But it sure holds an edge really nicely>> especially in SE.

I actually have a benchmades in the ats-34. The afck. It's really similar to the military. It's great to learn about these knives.

I've also got a beat on a Spyderco Stretch in ZD-189 and a Tim Wegner in ats-34.

I also have a line on the 440 military. The box says C36GSE MILITARY. Am I to assume that means Spyder Edge?

Yes, the SE indicates serrated. Sorry I can't help with current value on yours. They are worth whatever someone will pay. I've been seeing a lot of old and rare Spyderco Police variations on the big auction site lately so I suspect some collections are getting sold off to make ends meet due to the pandemic. They aren't fetching what I think they would in better times.
