All think there are a lot of good points in the posts above.
That being said, I still think your best bet is to send it back to Spyderco and get there opinion on whether or not the damage is repairable. Include two checks ($5 for shipping and $20 for repair). If they feel like it's a warranty issue they'll send the $20 check back. If it's a repair issue, you should be able to get it fixed.
