Military blade w/ striking pommel?

I own a Gerber Strongarm. Great knife, rugged, has a striking pommel/glass breaker, but it’s not very slicy due to its thickness and grind. Any suggestions for blade under 7’’, that is slicy, has a striking pommel, is coated (for military use), and has a fairly rugged (full tang) build around or under $70-80?

We were all with you right up till $70.

There’s plenty of knives in that price range, like the Sog’s or Srk’s or Glock knives, they’re fairly slicy, thick/barely tapered tang, they just don’t have striking pommels. I don’t need ‘em to run the latest and greatest supersteel, as it’s just gonna be a beater knife, I’d just like it to slice and cut better than my Strongarm, which is the one I’m currently using.

Does Chris Reeve still make a 5.5" Green Beret?

I don't think Randall Made has anything that fits your needs as they do not offer a coated or dull finish blade.

You may find that there is no "Combat/Utility" knife that is as rugged as you want and still has a good slicing blade. When our son deployed to Iraq, I set him up with a choice of several combat-utility fixed blade knives and a choice of heavy duty folders. The folders were better for daily small job cutting chores. The fixed blades were no-$h!+ gut-ripping throat cutters from both Randall Made and Chris Reeve.

A Buck 119 might suit your needs. The aluminum pommel is not advertised as a skull crusher, but could probably be used as such. It will be a much better slicer than the Gerber.

Especially if you can find a Buck 119 with a brass pommel. They are special editions but they are out there

Another good one would be a Sog Pillar. When they go on sale, they are close to $100

I really really like the Cold Steel Warcraft in San Mai( the smallest size). Slicey, tanto point so good for piercing, EXTREMELY robust and a good pommel that will do some real damage. Not coated though.

Another good one is the Sog Seal FX.

All of these are over your price point though

Does it have to be coated? How about partially coated? How about a Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140 (or the 110 model which is shorter) As rugged as they come, good slicer (better than the Strongarm for sure which I also own), robust tip and that pommel will pummel. About $50 (without sheath) with some excellent steel and heat treat. These are meant to be beat on. You will not do better than this and one of my personal favorites. Here is a good review of it

I agree with Ken. Slicey usually makes weaker edge, unless having thicker blade, which is not ideal for military blades.

Coated is not a must have for military imo. Most stonewashed/matt finish do well for low reflective signature. If you are concerned of NVD and thermal, there are bigger thing to worry about.

My suggestion is the Mora Garberg. The pommel is not exactly pointy, but it can strike well.

Mora Garberg is a fine choice

You suggested a CRK or a Randall to a guy looking to spend $80? o_O

What on earth is this and when the funk and wagnalls did they introduce a hollow ground Warcraft!

Just an idea, but you can improve the performance of the Strongarm if you put a good convex edge on it.
