How To Military broken tip, twice

I believe my knife just became good for "parts" but wanted to check. I sent it back for tip repair the first time, wasn't real happy with how much length was taken off but nobody to blame but myself. Now it has broken again and I might as well carry a PM2 after sending it back as the blade will be real short. Yes, I know my knife isn't a flat tip screwdriver, lol.

I know Spyderco doesn't sell blades but do "used" blades show up any?

Used knives (complete) show up frequently. Never seen just a blade for sale on the exchange.

Don't blame you for liking the Military and wanting to stick to it, but maybe for your uses another model woule be better. Have you considered switching?

Knives are for cutting BTW. If you broke the tip your not using it right or you need a different blade profile.

Add a multi tool, or at least a flat/philips-driver to your edc and you will have fewer broken tips. I also learned the hard way, not on a Millie but a $30 420hc pos! I was working with a non-knife guy who asked to borrow my knife to open a can of paint. Forgot my multi that day, only had 2 spydies in pockets, told him “no.” Wasn’t worth losing $125-200 for a short walk back to the truck!

There are lots of cheap mini prybar tools that are available you can stick on your keychain. For example the Nite Ize Doohickey which can be had for $5. It will save you alot of headache.

Also if you are going to use a knife to pry try and excercise some judgement. One look at the Military’s tip and it’s obvious that it is no good for prying.

IMO, it might be better to either consider another blade design (meaning not FFG or with a fine tip). Or as others have said, also carry a mini-prybar or even a SAK or multi-tool with screwdriver options. An under-$20 SAK's screwdrivers/can opener will do those jobs MUCH better than the expensive Military's blade. A saber-ground Endura 4 also has a much more durable tip for knife use than the Military, if that's necessary.

A chopped Military is still a useful knife. Michael Janich chops Yo2's and Enduras for places where blade length is restricted. Maybe someone in Denver or another area would buy it at a decent amount? Oh and stop whatever you keep doing with the tips

Yeah, I'd say you are repeatedly using the tip for something it's clearly not cut out to do. Key chain pry tools are very cheap. Use the right tool for the job, etc. and so on.

The tip of Military is delicate but not weak. The first day I received my first millie I dropped it accidently to the hardwood (cherry) floor when the blade was open locked, about 5 feet high. The blade stabbed into the floor. I did not see any damage or change to the tip. Of course, if you pry things with a military, that would be a completely different story.

Poor cherry :p

Yep, sometimes it is just a matter of butter fingers. I am no stranger to there.

I carry a Swiss Army knife everywhere I go so I don’t have to abuse my other knife. The Alox Cadet is so small I don’t know it’s there but it is incredibly useful. The modern folder is occasionally rotated but my Cadet is a true EDC.

check the exchange and you may find some that will work.

is yours a cqi model or not? you will want to make sure you get the right version to match (I believe).

but the answer is yes, militaries go for sale in the exchange, probably won't find them for that much cheaper than they sell for, unless you find a user aka scratches.

I locked myself out with only a hap40 man bug. Didn’t even cross my mind, despite being late for an appointment, to damage this tiny knife by attempting to pick the lock. Borrowed a lockpick kit from a neighbor instead, back inside in 5 minutes. I won’t, for any reason, ever pry with a spyderco knife. It will break and won’t get the job done. I saw at shotshow Eric was showing a knife with blade, screwdriver/pry device, and then he said it was 8cr13, which ruined it for me.
