I locked myself out with only a hap40 man bug. Didn’t even cross my mind, despite being late for an appointment, to damage this tiny knife by attempting to pick the lock. Borrowed a lockpick kit from a neighbor instead, back inside in 5 minutes. I won’t, for any reason, ever pry with a spyderco knife. It will break and won’t get the job done. I saw at shotshow Eric was showing a knife with blade, screwdriver/pry device, and then he said it was 8cr13, which ruined it for me.
8cr13 by Spyderco's heat treat protocol is a very decent steel, its not ''crappy'' by any means. Having said that, on the BHQ youtube vids of shotshow, Eric did say that was a first, then there should be a higher end one in the future.
As of now, that offering in 8cr13 surely blows aways SAKs of the same type. Now Imagine when done in S30V or CTS-XHP, its a matter of time!
Now it has broken again
yeah, that's a good enough reason in of itselfI didn’t mean that 8cr13 was “crappy:” it’s probably “tougher” than s30v—I just won’t, as a personal choice, buy spydies made in China. Ever.
Sorry for the late reply. The knife was damaged by using it as a pry bar/screw driver. Not sure how to post pics as photobucket is now charging, I can email it to someone if they want to post.
I like that wording . . . as if the knife were off by its self doing something and it came back broken.
I got one thing to say : Stop that.
Email sent, thanksIf you want, send them to me at litterbox1@gmail.com and I will post them.
If you must pry or screw with your knife get a Keyshaw, ZT or benchmade. They’ll charge you $30, but at least you’ll have your blade back the way it was. Still, a lot cheaper to carry another tool. When people borrow my knives for such a purpose they pay full msrp for a replacement, just for pissing me off.
Thx for posting the picture on behalf.
On a side note, OP - did you buy the millie from a dealer?
