Military Busses

So... let me get this straight. I "derailed" your thread by answering your question?

You know I don't really care about all these other knives. I just want my Fussion SH, when will they all be shipped???????

I think Mr Escobar is asking a very interesting question.I did not know that Busse has 80%of its sales to the military thats pretty remarkable.I think that thats more than some knife companies like Ontario that has contracts with the government for knives like the M-9.Are these personal military sales or are they mass sales to the government??I too would love to see some of these knives!I also am a Busse nut and carry one whenever the occasion arises,I also have owned all of them, but more and more on all arenas of the net I see this ready to jump down your throat if you dare say anything bad about Busse knives??Even when someone does not say something bad at all the dogs are at the ready.I thought that that is why we are all here to discuss knives with our differing view points??Maybe I am missin somethin??

It's funny, I've seen this statement before and seldom do I ever see it actually occur. Of course there are a few instances but do a search under many of the other popular name brands out there and you'll see it all the time. Just look at some of the other manufacturers forums and see how negative criticism is addressed.

Like I said there are a few occurences where someone has been criticized for a comment about Busse, but this "ready to jump down your throat" attitude is completely overblown. More times than not the criticism is addressed in a kind manner. And as I've already said this is not the case on many of the other manufacturers forums that currently exist or at one-time existed on BF.

Alright, all you who have variants via military orders, you need to send them back to the post office, C/O Cobalt. I will then send these to be inspected in our facility in Kazakhstan. Then I will ship them back to you via stalingrad and the caspian sea. Don't blame me if they don't come back. The US postal service is not responsible for mail outside the US.

the military models that i have were all bought from military personel with the exception of two.
milirary bases are my favorite place to score busse's, or the pawn shops near the bases.
the ones i like the best are the models stuck in some camel jocks a$$:D :D

Something I forgot to post in my original.

A FWIW, most of the people posting and selling on these forums are not soldiers. I have a friend who is active military, he lives on base and he can't even get on to read the forums. He said it is mainly do to the poor phone lines on base. Also I just remembered how Nick (grunt) stated he couldn't find easy access to the web while he was away at training. If you want to buy the "military only" Busses, I have to admit I don't think you'll find them on BF(or Ebay), or any of the other internet "for sale" sites. Go digging around at pawn shops around military bases, you might have better luck. I think I've already said too much, (I'm giving away all of my good sources ;) )

Edited to add:
Skunk types faster than I do ;)

It's a good question Matteo,

I used to wonder the same thing and then I realized that the lack of appearance of many of these blades is not unlike the lack of appearance of any of the thousands of blades I made as a custom maker in the 80's and early 90's. I made hundreds of Desert Storm Fighters and hundreds of D-2 boot knives that just never seem to show up. One of these did make an appearance at the Blade show after 13 years of field use.

And look at the Steel Heart 1 and the "Li'l Ugly" for example. We made thousands of those, and yet how many have you seen over the past 11 years since we introduced them? I've seen maybe 4 or 5 total ever come up for sale since 1994 when we quit making them. And in more recent times look at the lack of Zero Tolerances that come available. We made something like 1,200 of those and they are slowly disappearing from the market. And don't forget the "Tali-Whacker". We donated more than 200 of those and I doubt you'll ever see a military one come up for sale.

A large number of the knives that we make for law enforcement and military are standard models as SpearHog pointed out. You'll note that we very rarely mark our blades and sterility is the norm. It would be very difficult to discern these from the civilian models.

We do make specialty runs all of the time and are currently finishing several projects that are unit specific. Many of these are marked with a particular unit's ensignia. We do very little conversing about the mil. projects we do, unless we release an overrun.

Bottom line is that I just don't think too many guys are willing to part with their blades after they have served with them for so many years.

I hope this helps to shed a little light,

Jerry

Thank you!

Thats it.....I've got to put some foot work into this, there must be tons of Busses out there to find :)

I think what Jerry said is pretty much it in a nutshell. It's sorta like when GI's were able to keep their weapons after serving. About the only time those hit the secondary market is when the origional owner had died and whoever inherited it sold it. If you were issued a Busse and carried it for years would you be quick to sell it off? Another thought is that team specific knives may have to be turned in for reissue to new team members from departing ones. Have no idea about this though. Les, got any thoughts on this?

Well, I know that I have stuff from my time in the Army (particularly stuff that saw combat duty with me) that there is no way I'm parting with. And my family knows that if they auction it off after I buy the farm, I'm coming back for it... and for them.

As to how individual units deal with special purchases... there are a couple of ways they can do it. In a nutshell, when a unit makes a purchase, it can be done with unit funds or with combined individual funds. If individuals are pitching in their own cash... the knife would be theirs to keep. If the purchase is made with unit funds (depending on the unit) it is possible that the knives would be treated as sensitive items, signed for on a unit hand reciept, and issued for missions from the unit arms room. However, knives are pretty personal items and given that we're talking Busses here, I would guess that unit purchases are either guys throwing their money in a hat or the unit doing spending money on morale building stuff like getting troops real gear like a Busse.

Good luck getting a used Busse out of the hands of a guy who has used it in combat.

Thats what I mean. There may be literally thousands of Busse's out there but just a handful have surfaced and I think it will stay that way for some time to come.

Thanks Jerry,
I think your explaination makes perfect sense. I'm definatly never going to sell any of my Busses!
