The military is my EDC and sometimes the Para II. Do you all think it is strong enough for self defense? My glock just holds 8 and a man could run out of bullets. Hey, John Wick didn't carry a Military. Lol Please no sermons about a knife is no good. I also have pepper spray.

No easy answer here. Do I think any folding knife is strong enough? Not really. Do I think that a Military is better than my bare knuckles? Definitely. In more than half a century of carrying knives every day I've never needed to use one for a weapon, so I don't know how a Military would fare, but I'm pretty sure anything is better than nothing.

Strong enough in what way?

Defend what? Mosquitoes? Strong enough but useless. A mad pitbull? Strong enough but with very limited usefulness. A fully charged bison? not a chance.

If I was using a knife for a weapon, I don't think I'd want one that is designed to fold. And having broken a few blades over the years, I know how easy it is to do, especially when you are jacked up on adrenaline and fine motor control is out the window.

I think you could stab someone with a military pretty darn.... good? I don’t think that baby would break. If I absolutely had to defend myself, man I hope I have my PPQ with me.

Imho fixed blades are the only knives that are truly practical for self defense. Even then we all know a knife is not the best self defense weapon. Fine motor skills tend to go out the window when we are in very stressful situations. Most criminals will have it set up so you do not know you are being targeted until they are already ontop of you. In this scenario you don’t want to be thumbing a folder open.

That said imho the only folding knives that are even marginally effective as self defense blades are knives that feature the wave feature. You have to practice waving until it is second nature.

I would suggest you improve your firearm use skill set. Secondarily, either carry more magazines or a higher capacity pistol.

I won't give you a sermon about "about a knife is no good". I think it's more accurate to say that unless you are extraordinarily well-practiced in the use of a knife as a self-defense weapon, you are much more likely to be on the receiving end of your knife. Same goes for your firearm.

get an off hand knife for weapon retention, that's the most realistic self defense scenario where you will ever use one

even for LEO such chance is low, how many LEO will have discharged their firearm against a bad guy in their career? Very very few, so any civilian fantasy gun/knife fight is statistically going to be like winning the lottery

I think it would do a good enough job if you really needed to use it. I always carry two fully loaded spare magazines though also, so hopefully I won’t ever need more then 21 bullets. :)

Its not strength you need to worry about but deployment. A small fixed blade would be better.
The military is a well made liner lock knife. I carry mine often. If you needed it for self defense and that thing was in hand, I feel sorry for the other guy. The distal taper of the blade creates an extremely pointy tip and a great overall slicing edge. Take into account the blade length and handle length, all makes for a good weapon.

This.

Seriously OP if with good shooting skills and eight rounds are not enough, you are in a war zone.
