Hey guys,

Just got a Military PE non coated. The action is decently stiff. To stiff for my taste. I lubricated the action. I tried to loosen the pivot slightly to no avail. I dismanted it and polished both the pivot area of the blade and all the 'rubbing' area's to about 5 micron or a high polish. I ensured to remove very little steel. Should the copper washers be fixed to the G-10 Scales? Should I try to loosen the Torx heads that fix the frame a slight bit? The thing locks up like a vault which is awesome but can anyone give me any help?

Thanks

My D2 version was a little rough when new, but it smoothed out in time. Not what I had come to expect (based upon previous versions I own), as they are usually pretty smooth.

I tried adjusting the pivot bolt and Militec, but not much as I prefer a secure lock over smoothness of opening and it only helped minimally.

I LOVE the stiff action. I would not call it "rough," but I really really really like the military's action. instead of making the Mil into what you're used to, I recommend getting used to the Mil... it's the best folder ever!

I have a plain s30v/g10 Mil and it's very stiff. I don't mind it because it feels secure but I'm confused when I read about people being able to flick a Military open. It's damn near impossible in my opinion because the closed retention is unbelievable. It's smooth when you're past the detent though.

I have a D2, two BG-42 and an S90V Millie, none of which are stiff. As with all knives, they will loosen up a bit through use.

However, if you find it difficult to open, I think that an email to Spyderco may be in order.

I had an s90v cf millie for a while and it was stiff when opening when brand new.
After a while it smoothed out quite a bit on its own.

I have the same problem with both of mine. One was my EDC for three years. The other is brand new in box. They are too rough/hard to open. I've done everything I know to do to ease the opening. Nothing works.

Have you tried the Tenacious? It opens perfectly.

My CF/S90V is flickable. The action is stiff... the stiffest I've had on a folder... I LOVE IT. ...but with a "snappy" thumb movement, it flicks great... just takes practice! I can't think of any reason to have it slippery-smooth. This knife is made for ACTIVE people...kinda like someone in the "Military." In a situation of rigorous activity, closed retention is as or more important than any other function of the knife. Next in lline of importance is "training," if you will,...as in: Practice using your knife. Any new tool takes a little getting used to.

A good closed retention is more important than a buttery, smooth as glass, opening IMO. In this respect, with sooooo many inadequate folders out there...(take your pick), I reckon we should praise the Military for what it is!...a hype and gimmick-free, perfect tool. I LOVE the closed retention...

I believe that the complaints herein are on the topic of the knife's intended design, and there are a LOT of others which fit your criteria... The Benchmade Dejavoo or a 710 seem to be a lesser active, large knifeknut's best friend! Check those out! :D

I think you are exactly right. For the last couple of months, I have been leaving my Military at home and carrying a BM 710 every day.

Thanks for the suggestions here guys. I'll wait to see if it smooths out a tad with use. I'll try a little lapping compound on the rubbing area's and just use the crap out of it.

+1 to that

...and that too

my Dejavoo is absolutely flippable and fun to play with, but i'd rather have my stiff action Millie on me WSHTF
