Military Issue Knives

Dark Ops didn't make the list?

;) :D

You need to have a high level security clearance to view the Dark Ops knives section. But they are the #1 choise for elite special operations ninja assassins for conducting covert deanimation activities, and advanced CQC. :D

It hasn't been that rare in Iraq. There have been many stories of Marines and Soldiers ending up in hand to hand combat, using knives and bayonets. Particularly during the assault on Fallujah, and in the cemetery near the Imam Ali Shrine.

Thanks for adding that. I'm not a military person myself, but always interested in knives and their applications.

Dark Ops didn't make the list?
No, the US Special Forces in charge of Mall Security receive a knife allowance to spend in the DO catalog. Done intentionally so the D.O. knives don't receive GSA numbers and 'lesser' units can't get them.

The only thing I have ever been issued was the crappy bayonet, a BM AFO, and a SOG paratool. I wish I had held onto them, but they were good for trading with troops in other countries. :) I wish I saw even a quarter of those in our supply department. They have lots of them at the BX though.

When I was in the Marines (88-92), M7 bayonets were issued to everyone with a rifle, and Ka-Bars were issued to everyone that carried a pistol. I bought myself a Buck 110 at the PX - and I wish I knew where it is now.

My observation is that the quality of equipment issued to the Marines has drastically improved over the past 15 years.

You are mistaken.

The new issue OKC3S Marine Bayonet, NSN: 1095-01-506-3424
is not listed, among other of Ontario's offerings.

Actually, it is listed. Just search Marine Bayonet.

About the biggest issue item is a Gerber multi-tool of some form and the M-9 bayonet for the infantry guys, at least that is what I have seen here. Most of the troops that are carrying anything else bought it.

The main folder seen over here is the CRKT M-16 with the Cold Steel folders being a close second. Ka Bar is the main fixed blade attached to the web gear.

I think most infantry units get issued bayonets (Ontario M9), which also serves as an all purpose fixed blade. But for everyone else on the ground it's basicly Gerber multi tools, or maybe a Benchmade auto if you get lucky.

Another thing to note on this is that while the unit may/most likely owns M-9 bayonets, almost all units I've seen treat them much like a firearm...locked up in the arms room for issue. When said field problem or training event (we're talking "not deployed" here) is over, lil Johnny doesn't get to take his M-9 home to throw in the sock drawer until next time. NO ONE goes around in garrison with a big arse 7" fixed blade hanging down their leg until they've also got "battle rattle" on.

That is why everyone should have a Strider SLCC worn IWB ;) :D

Good points/info brought out in this thread by several of you in the know.
