ok, so I love knives but i really like military styled knives. I am looking for beefy reliable knives like strider/zt. What are some other brands out there fitting the description? I am not looking for knives like gerber or equivalent.

+1 on the busses

you are better off just getting one of the ZT knives from Kershaw. They are affordable, and a rock solid knives, plus the warranty is rediculosly good with Kershaw. They could easily sell for more than they are now.

I've got knives from Trident (Crusader Forge) and Extrema Ratio that I really like. Or if you're patient and want something that can be made to your fit your own specs, I would suggest checking out Burt Foster's line of military knives: I don't think you'll find more bang for your buck in a custom knife. I've got one of those too and it's my second favorite knife (my first being another one from Burt).

actually, I have the zt 0200 now but there's no hurt in getting other knives:)

Chris Reeve Knives. He's got two lines of fixed blades, his original One-Piece and the newer Harsey-designed, specificallly military knives.

To be honest, I've seen more Spyderco, Benchmade, and CRKT folders in the pockets of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coastguardsmen, and Marines, than any of the others mentioned above.

Any ones in particular they seem to favour?

I think that's a function of two factors. One, they fit the average enlisted man's budget. Two, that's what's for sale on base, and few people in the military or out of it know much more about knives than what's locally available.

Besides, we know that's also more than good enough for most people's use. Supersteels and the latest designs are fun but hardly necessary for daily carry.

Still, the original poster asked about beefy, reliable military knives, not what military people happen to be carrying, more like the best they could get if they wanted to.

Ranger knives are a good choice. Their RD series are quarter-inch thick pieces of 5160 carbon steel with full tangs. You can get them thinner if you like. What's not to love? I'm considering a custom RD variant with a 4 inch blade and no choil.

Yeah, OUCH. He got banned this afternoon and came right back under a new name. Bye-bye, babee.

c'mon. that was funny!

:p

thats why we said ouch. because it was funny. kinda like watching funny videos, seeing some one get hurt, and then saying "ouch" while trying not to laugh.

back to the topic.......didnt Chris Reeve come out with a new fixblade recently?
