Military liners

I don't understand what's the difference between the Military versions with a single liner and with a double liner. Could somebody please explain and add some pictures?

Thanks.

Alright well the military is obviously a liner lock right? That liner has always been there.

In newer militaries the g10 on the other side is milled out and there is a small steel liner up there (its really hard to see) that adds some rigidity to that slab. The military isnt lined like most knives are lined (see attatched picture); its more like the handle is made out of g10 and its got metal inserts for the lock and a little added strength.

First of all, none of the knives in the picture above is a Military.

It is dark here, and I don't have a lightbox, so this is the best I can do at the moment.

Looking down into the blade channel, you can see the skeletonized partial liner nested into the front scale.

Pieces made before the BG-42/Carbon Fiber sprint run did not have this piece - the inside of the front scale is smooth. Frankly, I doubt it adds a measurable amount of strength or rigidity, but I'd bet the steel liner will take longer to wear away than either the standard G-10 or carbon fiber scale without the liner.

Are there currently similar liners on the liner lock side also?

The lock side liner is also nested and considerably longer. In addition to providing the locking leaf, it also provides a steel anchor point for the clip screws. I tried taking a picture of that one, but it just didn't show up in the lighting I had available.

Since the OP was asking about the Military specifically, I just wanted to make certain that was clear. You know what they say about assuming. ;)

My only Military is a carbon fiber/S90V and it doesn't have the liner on the off side. Is that the normal configuration or do I have something odd?

Thanks for all your replies! Very illustrative ...

So, if I place an order now for a new Military, I'll get one with the "updated" liners?

Unless you order from someone with two year old (or older) stock laying around, yes, you will get a new one with the second liner.

elkins45, those pictures I posted were of the S90V/CF Military I pulled out of my back pocket. I went through all of mine, and the only three that didn't have the second liner were ATS-34, 440V and a sprint run S30V/CF. If yours doesn't have it, it is either a unique specimen or a fake.

Jack, I'm a dummy. I got it out and looked at it. It does have the second liner, I had just never peered down in there and noticed it. I guess I had just assumed it didn't. Goes to show that what they say about assuming is true...

Thanks for the reply.
