Military - Not quite what I was expecting

So, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Military. I am a relatively poor college student, so I went with the old fashioned S30V steel/G-10 handle model. Now I absolutely love the knife, but I gotta say: The Millie is way smaller than I was expecting.

Maybe I've got big hands or something but based on reviews and comments I've seen here and other places about other Military owners having a "shrinking" moment, I was expecting some kind of monster but my Millie doesn't feel all that huge to me.

It's an awesome knife nonetheless, it's just slightly different from what I was expecting.

It's all relative I suppose. I often think it feels smaller than it is due to its thinness and the light weight.

The Skirmish feels a good amount larger to me in hand for sure . . .

I have 3 - s90, d-2 and the BG42. I have to say that the military is about as big a folder as I would want to carry. 4" of blade is more than enough for my needs. One of the best folders out there in my opinion. Nice and slim - really kind of disappears in my back pocket. Nice lockup. Very good ergos in the handle. Very sharp out of the box - I cannot decide which steel I like the best (probably the s90), with a great cutting edge. A really great knife. I would have a hard time having a shrinking feeling about the military. Just my opinion of course.

I'd say I have average hands, and the Military's handles were too large for my tastes. The para was just right.

I handled an ATS-34 Mili a couple of weeks ago and for the size it felt like a much smaller folder but the the same time it was a large knife and big 4 inch blade and about a 5 inch handle. I don't own a Mili but soon enough I will have a Para Mili and am really looking forward to getting that knife in the D2 steel.

The thing about the Military is that it gives you all the handle space you could possibly want and yet keeps the package slim and light enough to be used every day.
For a comparison, lets take the Hossom Retribution. A whopping 4.6 inch blade and 6 inch handle, and yet, the handle on the Military gives your fingers more space to play with, especially with the finger choil.
Carry it for a few weeks, then try going back to the Endura, you'll see.

i agree the skirmish feels a lot bigger than the millie,

i dont think the millie is especially large though, then again i cant think of any spyderco i would call "large", nothing like a ralph/cammilus maxx or a rekat sifu, to me if the blade isnt +5" or so its not large, but thats just me lol.

the millie does pack a lotta blade into the handle, carries well too,

I definitely had that shrinking moment when almost all other blades in my collection suddenly became a lot smaller because of the D2 Mili. It isn't a large knife for me anymore, it is just larger than all my other folders.^^ Enjoy your Mili!!

LOL, my take on it was reverse recently :p

I used to own one about a year or so ago now, and traded/sold it off. I got another one a few months ago, traded/sold it off as well. Now as of this past Friday I got my 3rd Military, S30V plain edge satin finish - just the way I wanted it - and it's Huge!

I've been using my sebenza so long that I hadn't carried such a long knife in a while. Now I understand that "blade length" wise they aren't that far off from each other, but the handle has a lot of room and fits like a glove. It's very lightweight and is barely noticeable in the pocket.

It's like having a pocket machette :D Excellent knife for the price point, I haunted ebay and the exchange for a week or so waiting for a good deal on one and I finally got it  It's my favorite spyderco.

The Milli never strikes me as large, more like just right. The Rukus is large. The Manix is large. Still, the Milli has a long blade and a long handle. It's thin, but still robust. The thinness makes it easy to carry and makes it seem smaller than it is.

The Milli has been my EDC for a long time. There is no one thing about it that I really fills my sail, but for some reason, as a package, it's a near-perfect EDC.

The Military might be considered large length wise, but is thin and lightweight in the pocket. It's certainly no monster knife, but it has massive cutting power.

It's an excellent knife, one of my favorite production knife designs without question.
