I just bought a lightly used Military with honeycomb neon green Putman scales for $120 off eBay. It’s got the black DLC blade (S30V) and the centering looks perfect.

This will be my second ever Spyderco (bought a Shaman a couple months ago and love it).

A bit of a (very unusual for me) impulse buy, but I’ve been looking at the Military for some time. I was kind of surprised my offer of $120 was accepted. How’d I do?

I love the Military. Such a great knife.

You bought it off the bay? Are you sure it's real?

That place is a haven for fakes. So just be careful.

Military is a great knife. If the millie you bought is in good/great condition and of course if it is the real deal, I say it is a very good price given that it comes with some aftermarket scales. Congrats!

I figured with the aftermarket scales the chances of it being a fake are lower. The seller has an excellent rating and accepts returns so I should be ok.

Excellent rating don't mean anything. People buy fakes and don't even know they are fakes all the time. Plus people buy fakes and put aftermarket scales on them all the time too. Just saying. Not suggesting you have a fake or not. But it's less likely to get a fake buying from an authorized dealer and support the vendors on the forum that you use. Or the exchange here. But yea, legit deals can be had on the bay.

The aftermarket scales are what would make me a bit suspicious. Aside from it being on eBay , I mean. But as long as you know what to look for then cool.

Ok, I’m a bit nervous now. What will tip me off to a fake? Would a lack of quality be obvious?

First double check with the seller that it is indeed a real Spyderco. Then check the size , style and positioning of the font at the base of the blade. The jumping should be "step-like" as opposed to just "pointed".

Other guys on here who are more knowledgeable know exactly what to look for. I just know the basics.

Post some pictures when you get it.

Will do if I can figure out how to do it.

I watched several Utube videos on spotting a fake. From what I can tell in the pictures on eBay, it the one I bought looks legitimate. Should be here in a couple days.

I haven’t carried tip up since years ago before my mini AFCK got stolen. Loved that knife.

Congratulations! You'll love it. I've had brief lapses in judgement where I didn't own a Military, but I always come back to them.

I'm on the fence about ordering one. Not a fan of tip up cArry and it looks on paper like its huge. I usually carry a pm2 does it carry that much bigger?

For its size, it’s the easiest big knife you could carry. It’s size really lends itself to tip down carry as well.

Thanks p2p. Been looking At the kw cf/ti version since they are so cheap

Not many are left so either act soon or prepare for getting one from the secondary market. Look at it this way: either work a few extra hours or skip one night out and there you have $200 for this knife :p. Plus, the joy that you get from holding this beautiful knife in your hand is well worth two bills :D.
