I have narrowed my search for a new knife down to a few choices and on the list is the military. From what i have been able to read they all have black G10 except the limited edition cf model and the new green G10. Is that correct? Also the steels started of at 440v then went to s30v then the limited edition cf model with bg-42 and now there is a cpmD2 model? is that also correct? Other then these two areas are there any differences i should Know about. are the liners different or are there different clip position options or anything like that.

If you had to choose one of these models which would you choose... and the extra money for the limited edtion does not bother me if its worth it.

I believe you are correct about the various Military models. I don't have one but I have followed the progression of the Millie through the different variations.

AFAIK there is only one clip position. Blade steel and handle scales are the only differences that I'm aware of.

If I were buying one, it would be the green D2 model. I like green G10 and I really like D2 blade steel. Even though this is CPM D2 rather than the standard D2, the steel's properties are supposed to be very close. I like D2 for its toughness in a larger blade and for the fact that it performs very well even when the edge is not highly polished. It seems to be a good cutter when left a bit more coarse than some steels like to be left.

The BG-42 and carbon fiber model is my favorite of all. The steel takes a wicked edge very easily. The CPM D2 model is also excellent but for EDC I prefer the BG-42. The standard S30V version IMO is one of the best knives out period. You can't go wrong with a millie, thats all there is to it.

Everything sounds right to me.
It should be noted that starting with the BG-42 version they put a second liner in the side opposite the lock-bar. This is now standard with all new Military models (yes the S30V version was updated).

I have the BG-42 version, it's the sharpest Spyderco I've ever held (it came sharper than the ZDP-189 Caly 3).

I seem to recall seeing a Military with ATS-34 steel. I have one in 440V, a BG-42/CF sprint and a D2 sprint. There is also the S30V/G-10 regular production and there was a CF/S30V sprint before the BG-42 sprint.

The CPM D2 version holds an edge better than my S30V Manix, but I need to test the 440V alongside it more to see which comes out ahead.

And nothing that sharpens as easily as that BG-42 has ANY right to hold an edge at all, much less as well as it does.

I currently have the CF BG-42 and the new Foliage Green G10 CPM D2. I Love both of them but I started EDC the D2 and for the cheaper price about $60.00 dollars less, is overall the best deal. I will carry the BG-42 but have not because I am currently testing the D2 knife.

I will test the BG-42 in a few months.

Thanks for all the info guys. Even though all you did was make my decision tougher.... i did ask for it though didnt I. A special thanks to murdoc for that link.

As of right now if i were to buy a military i think id lean towards the bg-42 because its somewhat unique and i doubt any more will be made and because i havent used that steel yet.

Very useful ! & now I'd like to share a little secret with you guys... my Military also has dual liners ! Now I'm happier than before.

You can't go wrong with any Mili as far as I am concerned.

I guess if I were going to buy one and I had never had one, I would look at the green D-2 version as well. Maybe because that is the only one I don't have. I do like D-2 steel very much.

If you just want to sample the model without having to spend big bucks, you can find used older G-10 versions for $50-80. I bought two for about $60-65 each a while back and they are WELL worth that.

A G-10 S-30v Mili with any edge type is a winner and can be considered a best buy.
