Let me start by saying I love Spyderco knives.I have several use and trust them. But I've got a military CPM440V that I'm having problem with lock device. I bought this knife from a reputable dealer in the K.C.MO.area about 12 months ago.I noticed when I got it that the action was very stiff so I loosened the pivot tension, most of us would do that.Well when I did it seemed to draw the tang away from the end of the lock. Needless to say this was somewhat unnerving,I tightened tension back and put it in the gun-safe.I have carried it several times because I like the look and feel of it but I know it's not right.I have tried unsuccessfully on numerous occassions to adjust the play out of lock. With the knife open there is approximately .5mm gap from blade tang to lock and at blade tip I can crudely measure about 1.5-2.0mm of travel with blade locked open.Any suggestions? I really like this knife design don't want to retire it or give it dishonorable discharge.```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Thank you Jeffrey Allison aka Bodeen

Jeff - send it to the infirmary at Colorado; I'm sure Chief Nurse Danelle and Dr. Ford will take care of it.

Affirmative, Sgt Titan.
Head Nurse (ok, not Head, but it sounds good so I'm leaving it)

Hey Bodeen,

If Danelle and her ER room associates can fix my Wegner that ate marble, and an Endura that ate everything else, fixing your Military should be no problem!!

Not to put Bodeen down, but how many times has the subject of not messing with the Military's pivot come up here and in the General Discussion forum?

Jeff -- were you, by any chance, carrying your Military in your back pocket? Also, how much do you weigh?

I am new to this forum and never recieved the warning about the pivot axle. But I heard about the eccentric on the pivot and thought I could rotate to take up the play in the lock.Titan I do carry my knives with clips,in my back pocket most of the time. However I'm not a large person 150lb. However I think I'll send it to the pros at Spyderco.I e-mailed them this morning and Danelle told me to send it in.I think I will.___________________________________ By the way is this the same Danelle that answered my post above? THANKS GUYS&GAL

Yup, she's our Spydie "mom"

Hmmm.. All these posts about screwing up the adjustments when the pivot was touched got me running and checking my Military. I adjusted the pivot to my preference, but haven't encountered the problem that Bodeen is having. Is this an isolated case?

Dan

Um, is adjusting the pivot tension (like Bodeen mentions) actually adjusting the eccentric pivot? Or is it just adjusting the pivoting action (a la AFCK, BF Native, and most of the other normal folding knives that have an adjustable pivot)?

Hey, Sal or someone at Spyderco: Help! We need an answer here, as I seem to remember that adjusting the pivot in a Military is taboo.

Well I too also am wondering about these things...I was about to post it myself when I saw this one. My Military's lock can be seen sliding over and flexing while putting light pressure on the back of the blade. I have tried to turn the screws also but no change...Help!

Thanks to all for your input on this matter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Fuller--I'm sure your right about adjusting pivot(not tension).I took this into consideration before I attempted to do so.I figured possible repair was certainly better than the present condition of knife. With that being said I am fully prepared to pay for repair or replacement of any thing I may have damaged.I just want it repaired so I can use it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Titan--Thanks for the info and interesting link. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As you can see from all the posts on other threads, that you CAN adjust it. I've been carrying mine in my back pocket since the new model came out. Hell, I've worn out two pairs of Levis right pockets with it. You did the right thing to send it back. Even with a Military there might be one in a thousand that needs some "straightening out"...Gene, (One of the "original" Military Men).

I finally had the time to go back through the posts in this forum and found at least one where the Spydie folks said that, while it was ok to loosen or tighten the screw, nobody should mess with the pivot pin as that controls the lock-up settings and should only be done at the fectory.

I am sorry if I caused any undue worry on this, but I needed to look at an awful lot of posts before I found what I was seeking.
