Military VS Para Military

I shouldna clicked the thread, I shouldna clicked the thread.:( Now, I am going to have a paramilitary D2 monkey on my back.:grumpy: It was a military monkey, but now this thread has brought the monkey so much closer. Way to go Spyderco! My wallet hates you. Para military
D2 plain edge is CJ's new monkey.:D

I have the Para in D2..incredible knife...super strong design...Its a powerful cutting tool..

Maybe a comparison picture would help you understand the size difference:

And just for cj65's sake, I'll throw this one in:

Not fair Lambertiana!, you are feedin my monkeys, they are getting heavier. Thanks for the comparison pictures, it really helps. I like the look of the military better, but the para really would be more useful in everyday suburbia. I really enjoy D2 steel, it is a great edge holder.

I had a Para & a Millie... I just sold the Para. It is a NICE knife... they both are. I prefer the Millie. I just like the liner lock better. The size is really not an issue. If you just USE the knife and put it away everything is fine... If you pull it out and look around to see who's watching, your body language says that you are nervous or just plain creepy and folks might get intimidated. I've never had anyone say anything negative about my Millie... used it in the Post Office a few times, at work often, @ BBQs.. you name it. I've even asked female acquaintances if they thought it was too large and they all said... well, it's a knife... The Para is a GREAT knife too... I just prefer the Millie.

I have to ask this all the time

Is the blade to handle ratio a little bit better on the Military? Also, does the para have a slightly longer than three inch blade? It seems a little bit longer than the UKPK/Caly3 blade, which I believe is three inches.

Also, I was wondering what avenues one should pursue for getting a D2 Para. Were they recently discontinued? Is Ebay and secondary/used markets like forums the only options at this point or are any retailers still in possesion of them. I'm not quite sure if it is ok to name retailers on the forum so any kind of general answer would be fine for me.

Thanks

I own and carry both, but I have 3 Paras and 1 Military. The Paras get a lot more pocket time. I like the size of the blade and the blade-to-handle ratio on the Paras. There's easily enough handle for even big hands to hold securely, and there's enough blade to do about anything an EDC folder should be doing. I've owned 6 or 7 Paras now from early ones to the latest D2 ones, and I've never had a tip problem or a problem with the blade detent (keeping the blade closed). I even like the factory TD carry :D.

The Military goes out with me when we go hiking or camping. It's fine for that, it's just a bit more blade than I need for EDC stuff.

Para is legal to carry where i live. I never carry any knives associated with self defence or the military.

Well, I finally gave into all the hyping and I just got my first Millie today and I really, really like it. Now I guess I'll have to get a Paramillie too? Great. Thanks a lot. :)

Hmm. Well, i see the differences are the blade size and the locks. Which lock is easier? I love my liner locks but i also love my axis lock. Does anybody have a comparison side by side or better detailed pics of either of the knives because the spyderco website doesn't show much.

I have a Police and a Tenacious - I carry the Tenacious all the time but in a defense encounter I'd want the Police in my pocket.

I ordered the Military, plain edge, satin finish blade but I think I'm gonna cancel Monday a.m. since the Police model is a beast, why bother with the Military I figure??

I always carry for self defense. You have to be ready for all that suburban cardboard! I have yet to lose a fight against the cardboard, because I am vigil, and at the ready.

Is the paramilitary the same size as the deliva or smaller/larger? I liked the size of my delica. That militaries tip doesnt look so breakable to me. Is S30V good stuff?
