Military vs. Police3

Thanks...dang, I might have to get a P3 at some point then! Oh, and I've also been wanting another Millie, too (the one I have is an old 440V version).

I'd go for the aggressive texture the CF Military knives feature. Better grip.

It appears otherwise, comparing in order my P3, BG42 Millie and Endura 4 VG10:

Considering the P3 has a longer blade and thinner stock, it makes sense it would have thinner geometry throughout.

you're probably correct. its wider, edge to spine, so probably more durable.

ill break out the calipers tomorrow.

Dang.. P3 too thin for me. I was hoping the Millie's tip would be thicker too. Despite the Longer blade of the P3, the S30V in the millie, I think I'll stick with the Endura.

according to my caliper (starrett 797b), the p3 tip is thicker.

d2 millie: .021"
p3: .028"

i measured approx 1/16" from the tip. the blade stock is thicker on the millie at the choil, but the tistal taper is also more drastic as it moves toward the tip.

I got 0.025" at the same point on my S30V Military with G-10 handles.

Maybe the D2 is thinner?

I've always thought that the tip was really thin on the Military, but remarkably robust. Never had a problem with it bending or breaking.

i suppose its possible to have some variation between knives, especially since we are talking about thousandths of an inch.

i measured again, got .023". in any event, my p3 tip is thicker, though only slightly.

While we're all playing with digital calipers I couldn't help but join in.

My S90V Military is 0.018" at 1/16" from the tip and 0.029" at 1/8" back, having been sharpened a few times my Militiary has a slightly thinner than stock tip.

The Police 3 is just about the perfect knife for me.
I love the G10 and the new blade shape/grind.
I've always liked a lock-back better than a liner-lock knife.

The only thing that would make the Police 3 better for me would be having it in S30V or ZDP-189 steel.

I would go for Milllie with the simple reason that it is very hard to go wrong with it. IMHO Millie has much bigger user-base therefore more people had tested it. I have 2 myself and it is just a pleasure to keep one in your hand. Also I think that Millie is more comfortable in a hand, that is if you need to use the knife extensively.

One more point would be that thicker Millie blade is more durable and harder to break. In the end of the day it is what you will feel more comfortable with. :)

My 2 cents

Had 3 Milies and a Para. Bought the new G-10 Police w/Flat Ground Plain Edge Blade and sold the other 4. Just preference, but the Police felt perfect in the hand and the pocket. Always thought the Milies were too light!

Quick question: just recently got my first Military (CF/S90V) - from an eBay seller.
What type is the pivot screw? Mine looks like a hex screw, rather than a Torx or Philips screw like the rest of them - which strikes me as odd. I think I might have gotten a stripped screw, but there doesn't seem to be all the much evidence for it.

personally, I've handled the P3, and will eventually get it, because it fits in the hand and pocket very well when closed, but seemed a bit heavier than I generally prefer. Also, I have occasionally stripped screws or damaged clips on the standard Spyderco "4-way" clip - the ParaMillie and Tenacious clip (as well as the wire clips) seem to have held up much better.
