Hi,

Which is preferable for folders, Militec or Tuff Glide. I am trying not to get both.

Thanks
Bill

You can get free samples of Miltec from their website so I say go with them. Both products work about the same.

Neither is absolutely better. It depends on your uses and environments.

Militec is slicker. It has no rust protection. It does attract dirt.

Tuff Glide does offer some rust protection. It is a dry system and doesn't attract and retain dirt. It is slick.

For me, Tuff Glide is preferable.

The dirt issue and rust were my bigger problems in use so I went back to using Tuf Glide.

I found that gun oil is the best - Formula 3 (dont remember brand) works better then both of this things.

I have trouble with Militech - it make things worse for me.

Thanks, Vassili.

Tuff is good. I am using it to prevent rust. Also Alpha Supply
http://www.alphaknifesupply.com
has nice silicon sonething to treat blades.

Just get both and decide. As stated Militec offers a free sample, http://www.militec-1.com , that is actually plenty big to last many years as a knife lube. Then buy the Tuff Glide and do some comparisons.

I couldn't figure out how to order the free sample on the Militec site. Am I not seeing the forest for the trees or did they possibly stop the free sample offer? I have the Tuff Glide and like it, but wanted to compare.

I think I just emailed them about it a few years ago and they shipped me a bottle of the lube, and a container of the grease. They might have stopped it in order to give the freebies to troops, which is understandable.

tuff glide is a great detergent; it gets the gunk out. plus it protects & doesn't attract lint & gunk like oils do.

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for all your advice, looks like I'll be going with Tuff, I did request for the Militec about a month or more ago, but it didn't come. I live in Canada may be that's why it's taking so long, or may be it's only for those in the US.

Militec .... It has no rust protection.

What do you mean it has no rust protection? it's a synthetic oil... synthetic oil is actually better than natural oils for rust protection.

We all must use our equipment and their lubes in mysterious ways! I' ve used both, among plenty of other lubes, the Militec and the Tuff Glide on cutlery, machinery, firearms, bicycles, etc. I have personally found that the Militec comes out on top in all applications. Just wipe a Tuff Cloth (which contains the same chemicals as in Tuff Glide liquid) on a blade and let sit for a few hours. You will soon see a layer of lint developing on the surface. It literally acts as a filter for dust! I have regulated Tuff Glide liquid as a "reactivator" for my Tuff Cloths. But don' t store my blades out in the open. ;)

They haven't stopped... I got my free sample of the oil and grease 2 weeks ago, 2 days after I asked for it. :D

Oh and my opinion of both, no difference, both work good. I honestly don't see why either is so highly rated or talked about though.

I've used both and both work well. I finally settled on the miltec because I was having to reoil too often with the tuff-glide.

Militec had no appreciable corrosion resistance in my soak tests. Break Free CLP was markedly superior in that regard. Ballistol also fared better in all the tests. I've been meaning to test out my new favorite lube, FP-10, and some mineral oil along with Breakfree as a control result, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I may pick up some mobil-1 synthetic sometime, but remember that Militec is basically a pressure additive chemistry, not comperable to a synthetic motor oil at all.
