Millbank bags?

I've read about and seen these things a few times, and they look like a nice 'hands free' way to pre-filter some water before boiling/tablet treatment. They also look cheap, simple and lightweight. Anyone have experience with them?

Does anyone know where to get one of these state-side, or are these strictly a European convention?

Thanks for thoughts-

Like the British DPM Camo-Basha, the only places I have found that have them are British and don't answer E-mails to the nasty Colonials apparently.

They are canvas bags, essentially. They will do better at filtering dirt and whatnot out of water than say...a bandanna, etc. I guess you could make some out of canvas as well and sew the straps on it to hang it, etc.

I've got an old stuff sack that I keep the large version of my survival kit in, seems as though it would function similar to the Milbank Bag.

I bought a bunch of them from Cheaper than Dirt. They were UK marked tan canvas and worked OK if you used then properly. They will "blind" if you have too much sediment or junk in the water. So it is better to let the water settle first to get the heavier stuff out before using them. I carry one in my BOB.

Thanks much, I'll keep an eye out in CTD for them. Seems like their hard to get other than that type of situation. Didn't even see any of Evilbay.
