I just received Millenium Apogee # 3
like the other lucky recipients, this knife has definitely exceeded all of my expectations. The fit and finish are superb
stunning work.
The knife is truly beautiful. I tend to avoid the "black tactical" pieces that seem to be in vogue these days, so most of my customs are either "traditional" slip joints or tend to combine relatively modern designs with natural handle materials. I had never owned a knife with an anodized and decorated metal handle so I was completely unprepared for the elegance of the Apogee. The engraving on the inside of the frame (
# 3 MILLENNIUM DDR, visible through the slot for the locking bar)is a very nice touch! The Apogee is almost
too attractive
I was tempted to put it away to keep it unused to preserve its pristine looks. Fortunately, I was able to overcome this inclination and actually do some cutting with it
. It fits my hand wonderfully
the ergonomics are great. I have relatively small hands and for me the knife is perfectly sized for a daily carry piece. I love the blade shape as well
it seems very well suited for general utility work. I obviously haven't had a chance to give it a thorough workout, but I can hardly wait to see how the 420V steel holds up (it was delivered razor-sharp). The lock-up is rock-solid
I've never had any problems with liner-locks, but it's clear that the integral lock on the Apogee is a major leap forward in terms of reliability. Darrel was also kind enough to accommodate my aversion to pocket clips
the clip was included with the knife but was removed (the holes in the frame are filled with tiny textured screws that match the rest of the screws in the frame).
I know that I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said many times before, but I just wanted to let everyone know how impressed I was with Darrel's craftsmanship on this knife. Right now I'm in the throes of "new knife fever" and I may not be completely objective, but I'm sure that the Millenium Apogee will continue to be one of the high points of my collection. Now I just have to start saving up for the auto version
