Miller Bro's Rope Knife

Fantastic knife r8shell, congratulations. It looks to be in great shape, and I'd agree with Charlie and others, it doesn't look like it needs much work. Simply beautiful, as are your knives Todd and Stephen

Pipe-cleaner inside the liner soaked with oil helps get any nasty bits out and of course this adds protection. I also think if you handle it frequently this too is good: the oils etc from your skin give bone a beauty treatment and natural shine:thumbup:

What's the W&T like on this one? With that 'chopper' blade you may have to watch the fingers:D:eek: Very worthwhile addition, we'd all like it!

Thanks, Will

Oh my goodness, you found it!!!!
Thank you so much R8shell!!! I thought I had lost it - been searching EVERYWHERE!!!
Thank you VERY much, i have been worried sick - ok - now dat you handled it - hand it back over :-)

Interesting that The miller Bros used screws on the Slabs of that beautiful Bone- instead of pins- if they are original? - which they look to be?

With the Lanyard hole, I wonder if that Screw Eye is an added after thought or factory?

That eye is a factory item. So are the screws.

Cheers Glen - you seen them before on a knife? ( the eye screw that is ) - its one thing that has evaded me ol eyes to this day

W&T is excellent. It's not a bear-trap, but snaps open firmly. Flush at the half-stop, too. :)

Ha, ha! Don't worry, it's found a good home.....for now........

The lanyard hole + screw eye seems to be standard. Weird, I know. I wonder if there used to be some complicated Navy way to secure your knife using both?

Hi Rachel,

That is a beautiful old antique knife and I love the look of it, especially the great patina on the bolsters. Other than the rust removal you described, my vote would go for very light cleaning on this one. It is hard to find one with patina that good and undisturbed. Wonderful find!:)

Here is an old knife, which I thought had a lovely old look and I just lightly cleaned it. ;):)

Great Find r8shell!
I have 1 just like it except it is missing "the eye"
Have a couple other Milller Bro's, they all have the scales screwed on. Just like yours mine is a bear trap also... watch them fingers!!!

Congrats r8shell, that's pretty much the nicest example of a Miller Bros rope knife I have seen. I would oil it and fondle it.

Best regards

Robin

That eye is a factory item. So are the screws.

LG3 has an example of that same knife on page 170. It has the ring. He went on to say there was a large version and a smaller size, which is more rare. I'll scan the page when I get some time. The image looks like it came out of a catalog, so I have to think it can be dated.

Had a stroke of luck and found my pic's! :D
My Miller Bros without the "eye"

Some nice jigging.

Beautiful Dave  That cartridge box gave me a moment of Deja Vu as I was just admiring one of your other knives in the 'joints' thread! :D

I can tell the old pic's by that cartridge box Jack!
The only other Miller Bros knife that I have a picture of is this pruner. It has some honest wear but still sports the screws holding the bone on.

Dave

Thanks Jack! I'll see if I can't scare up a pic of the pile side of the pruner. :D
