Millie 1 vs 2 and gooney.

I really been enjoying the Millie and seems to have gotten better and better with time. Kinda sad that there likely are not going to see any new variants.
Just wanting opinions on how the 2 compares next to it.

Side note if you have a gooney, do you like it ?
I really like the blade shape but the width while closed is off putting, blade steel seems a bit … lacking.

The military 2 is an excellent knife, I liked the first Gen but at the end of the day the 2nd Gen is an improvement to me. And the gooney blade shape would not be useful to me how I use my knives, I would personally never buy one.

I went into the 2 expecting to hate it. Actually it might be better said I wanted to hate it. I didn't want the original messed with. (Yes, it was a bad bias and poor perspective to have. Some day I hope to be a better person.)

The 2 absolutely won me over, and it did it very quickly. It's cheaper, lighter, and you can "skinny mod" the handles. I skinny modded two of three of mine (left the Salt handles alone because of the grooves not matching up with that) and took off the front to make it front flippable (you can do that with the OG as well though, so it's not a difference). They're great. Outside of work I have mostly been carrying those recently. It's what I was looking for out of the PM2, a better amount of edge and "skinniable" handles. Also, while I like tip down for longer knives since your thumb gets to the hole faster than jamming your hand way down in the pocket, if you want to add a wave, there's no need to drill and tap for tip up carry; more options are always nice.

For me the only differences are the aesthetics and audible lock up. I like the clean looks of the Military and the distinct thwack it has. Other than that, the Military 2 is a fine knife.

I wish I didn't read that now the tinkerer in me wants to start hacking away at mine haha. I thought I was going to want to skinny up the handles but stock they feel pretty good to me.
To really push you into the idea, it makes using the choil feel better, too. Or at least to me it does. The way Spyderco designs their 50/50 choils, they're fine if your finger is completely perpendicular to the blade like with your index tip pointing towards the spine of the blade, but mine angles back with the tip towards the handle (maybe everyone's does?). If I'm gripping with index in the choil, my thumb is pressing forward, and the index finger tip pulls back. Using it like that, the nub presses into the flesh of your finger. It's not the worst thing in the world, but if you get rid of that area, it's no longer there to poke you and feels a lot better (at least for me).

Everyone's hand being different and everyone gripping knives differently, it could be totally wrong for you or others. But for me, the nub there is always uncomfortable.

Ordered the military 2 in 15v a couple days ago, knivesshipfree still ain’t shipped yet. Never had the military model, just pm2. I found the pm2 small for what I wanted. Would like an Emerson type opener on it.

So used to the Military 1 that i’m still not sure if I like the 2 as much. The fluted Ti M1 is still my favorite. Plus, the 3 M2 that i bought (Cruwear and Magnacut) all had lock stick and needed some tuning.

Only you can tell which one you prefer. Try one.

I've recently bought two M2s -- 15V BBB and the CruWear/Micarta -- and will say they are both very fine.

I never did have an issue with their liner lock version and found it exceptionally easy to use but Spyderco say the compression lock is a better lock so who are we to argue?

I’m thinking I should order the micarta model from Spyderco. $100 less than what the 15v cost me.

I think my index finger is slender enough I don't have a hotspot but I can see what you mean. My issue is I have the salt and don't know how ugly the patterned scales will look if I shave off the corner into a front flipper 🤔

Where did you get the fancy pocket flipper?

Thank you.
I’m just going to have to try it out :/
I’ve had my eye on crucarta for awhile. Then I was carrying the Millie the other day or so, and it’s just excellent.

Spydie flicks like an auto, it’s so satisfying.
Is the feel in hand similar and action similar ?
tip down carry is my preference so no issue for me.

Those comparison photos are helpful. Kinda made me wish I never sold my OG military. If only I knew I could have turned it into a front flipper!

kreole kreole does the OG flip better since it looks like more tang is exposed?

Yeah for sure. There's more tang and also the 2's tang is more pointy so less comfortable to flip (not horrible, just not as nice). I checked and am close to the liner on the 2 as they are.
