First, thanks to David Lowery for the excellent transaction! Knife was exactly as advertised.

Received the basically NIB Military today to keep my Para FG D2 company. LOVE the Para btw. I realize that due to the liner vs compression lock, the Millie won't be as smooth an opener/closer as the Para, but wondering how to smooth up the Millie a little? The pivot screw isn't overly tight at all, in fact I can pretty much remove it and still have little, if any, blade play and still stickier than I think it should be. Blade is perfectly centered when closed. Put a a drop of gun oil in there, helped a little, but the blade still seems stiffer than it should be opening and closing. I suppose it will break-in some?

Any/all suggestions appreciated!

opening smoothness seems to vary by model, at least mine do.

my d2 and bg42 millies are both like butter.

my s90v is a bit stiffer, mainly the result of a much stronger detent.

IMO my 1st Gen Millie opens smoother than my compression lock Spydies (Para, Salsa, Gunting, Gunting Trainer). Just break it in.

I've bought those same two in the past month. My D2 Para is also much smoother than the Reg Miltary.
The Military is plenty smooth enough though. The FG D2 Para opens as smooth as a couple of William Henry's I have.

I've had 2 millies. I sold my s90v version. I currently have a black coated s30v.
Both were a bit stiff when new, but responded very well to breaking in. Keep opening/closing over the next few days and you'll notice a big difference.

Thanks for the replies ... it's not like it's "rough", just used to the Para more than anything. I may trade this thing though, I knew it was big, but until I got it in hand, I couldn't really tell if I was going to be good with it.

I've had a total of 4 Millies. None of them were even close to the smoothness of my Para. The Military is maybe the greatest folding knife ever made, but that buttery smoothness that you find in many knives just isn't part of the equation. The Military is all work and no fluff. Definitely not the knife for everybody. Once you've tightened the pivot to where pretty much all horizontal play has been removed, the exceptional smoothness just isn't there anymore.

Put the Para on a shelf somewhere and carry the millie for a solid week. Then decide.

to get it super smooth, you'll have to adjust the screws that hold the scales together, mainly those that hold the stop pin in place.

It's getting a LOT better, yes, you're right though, the scale screws made a big difference.

Thanks for all the input.

My S30V Millie is super smooth but I carry (and use it) it almost every day. Miltech does help also. My D2 Millie is a little stiffer but breaking in nicely

My new Military was super tight at the fully closed position then moderately tight and somewhat rough throughout the full opening sequence. I tried loosening the pivot screw and actually removed it but still super tight.

I was becoming very disappointed and was ready to return it for repair but tried some lube (Gunzilla). Lo and behold the knife smoothed right out; like instantly. I have used this stuff on other knives (and guns) and really like it but the results this time were very dramatic.

Now I totally love this knife above all my others.

I was tempted at one point to take the knife apart all the way but was scared that I might not be able to get it back together.

Does anyone know about the disassembly of the Military? What's involved? Difficulty?
