I've been thinking of trying my luck at knife making and I was wondering if anyone here thinks this table top milling machine will handle the rigors of steel removal.I was formerly a cnc prog/oper
for about ten years but have never really machined metal.
Any and all professional opinions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

It looks like a retrofitted jet mill drill to me. Its not a bridgeport but it will do a lot. We have one at the college where I take machine shop and it does a good job on smaller parts. It will run a 3 inch facing mill throught mild steel (1018 cold rolled) with no problem.

Do you really need CNC capablilty to make a knife? That would be the question I would ask myself.

No I don't need cnc capability for the knives but they're not the only thing I'll be machining on it.
