Hi Gang! I have some vintage GE Micarta. 1/2" thick.
Can Micarta be milled and is anyone interested in taking on a penny folder knife project with this Micarta?
Thanks!

I got one of those random scrap boxes of micarta from usknifesupply. One of the pieces looked a lot like a canvass and it didn't mill well. Seemed almost too soft and my end mill would kind of get gummed up. All the paper and linen micarta milled great though. I'm not a machinist like Nathan though. He probably has a way to mitigate the end mill gumming up.

I had that happen with a 4flute but then I switched to a 2 flute with fast speed and all was right in the world

Thank you, Gentlemen.
I'm sending Nathan a piece of Micarta. He can take it from here and I hope he tells us how it went on the mill.

Just yesterday I tried something I read about on this forum. I placed a piece of Micarta on a parallel with two sided tape and removed some stock on a surface grinder. Using a course stone I was taking .020 a pass. Kept the shop vac close for dust control.
