Milling shoulders

I was also under impression that to get best fit you need to mill shoulders and sides. All four sides make a shoulder or step whatever you call it so bolster or guard lies flat against it.
You probably can't get away with just grinding shoulders instead of four sides especially if longer sides of tang are not parallel since slot sides made on mill are parallel.

$95.00? I made mine out of scrap!

You get what you pay for! LOL! Just joking! :D

Seriously, if you look at what is offered and what it does, I believe you can see where the price comes in. It is surfaced and hardened, fits right on a vise and requires no set up time or second guessing. It makes it simple. Any other machinist would probably agree that it's a fair price for the work and time involved for something like this.

I confess. I've just ordered one.
I figured than it'll take me less time to make a knife I can sell for $95 than to make this jig.
Their jig will be better than mine anyway.
