Millitary G-10 Orange and Camo

Well I am shopping for a new EDC. I have been EDC carrying a BM 551 for the last three or so years. Its duties day to day are light with some tent camping in the summer. Still a great knife but I kinda want something new. Prior to the BM I had a Wally World Native s30v which I lost during a night fishing excursion.

Lately I have been leaning toward a Millitary but can't decide on color. My impulsive side says get the Orange. But I have read a couple of blurbs about it getting dirty easily and since it will be EDC I hesitate. I also like the Camo but never really see much said about dirt on the handle. Also the camo looks kind of translucent which I am not really sure how I feel about that.

Can anyone tell me a little more about the optional color handles and how easily or resistant to dirt they are? Should I just get the boring black. Should I just pony up and get the titanium. JK I would hate to loss that thing if I EDC'd it.
 
One thing to consider is the visual impact of the knife on non-knife folks where you'll most likely be using it. If they might freak out at a knife of that size the Orange might garner to much attention and the Camo could appear to militaristic. If it will be a work/camp knife that gets laid down or dropped a lot the orange would definitely be handy.
I'm in the same boat as you right now and am leaning towards the Camo first with the black a close second.
 
Get the orange one - far from frightening folk, everyone'll think you are in the rescue services and try to buy you a drink :D :D
 
I clean all my G-10 with a toothbrush, dishsoap and warm water. The Orange Millie is going to be dropped from production in 2011 so I'd get one while you still can.
 
after the scrubing does the color fade over time?

I never tuck my shirt, so while perusing the local market or mall the orange will stay hidden until I use it. Although at work I wear a uniform and orange would stand out a bit over black pants, so I may have to dedicate a duty folder. The Camo would not be too extreme but may just have to settle for the black to stick to one knife. arrgh...

on a side note I am also considering the new HEST folder.
 
I have an orange Millie, I like it alot, as far as clean up. I too use a toothbrush to scrub the scales. It cleans up nicely, no fading that I've noticed.
IMHO - It's a bit too heavy & long for an EDC carry blade.
But what do I know... I feel the same way about my Manix II. And it is my daily carry at this time, along with a few others in the rotation
Not in orange. But the sage colored (Green foliage ) ain't too shabby !:D
Good luck on your search. +1 on the Orange Mille (Sprint run item) being dropped. If you're wanting one...Act!!!

Ditto:thumbup:. And I haven't noticed any fading.

Although the orange might draw attention more easily, I think people are more likely to view it as a tool.
 
I'm having the same problem...but I can't decide wheather to carry one of my CF BG42's or my D2 Foilage Green:confused:


I'll keep my Black G-10, but can not decide between the CF and FG as another to use. And I've been trying to for days!
I'm thinking the FG will blend with jeans well, and not draw much attention, or look tactical, but I love the lieghtwieght CF:confused:


I sold my Orange, as I just don't like bright orange, and that was ALOT of orange.
My Orange was the smoothest Military I've owned, and I've heard a couple say that. All may not be that way, not sure.
Like some said the Orange will be gone after this year, and if you like Orange I would go ahead and snag one:thumbup:


BTW- To any that have used the Foilage Green. I know it will be harder to keep clean than the CF or Black, but how is it compared to the Orange in that regard?
 
To the OP: get orange. :) G10 is colored all the way through, so it won't wear off like paint.

Ken - I haven't EDC'd my FG Military a lot, but I have EDC'd a FG Manix 2. Contrary to my expectations, it does not seem to show dirt at all. I had carried the blue Manix 2 for a while and it turned out to show dirt really quickly. I haven't had that happen with the FG, but maybe it just 'hides' on the FG G10? Not sure what the reason is.

The orange millie is just plain awesome. One of my favorite knives. Definitely makes the knife more acceptable to the public...and nearly impossible to lose!

1 for Digicamo

I got one as a beater Mil because I thought it was the ugliest Mil out there. Once I got it in hand, it was visually appealing. The translusence was not distacting, but 'cool' to me. The handle was a break from the typical black.
 
Well I just ordered one. yay. Should be here this Saturday. Will post pics. I am already thinking about my next one.:rolleyes:

This was a bit of a surprise since Amazon description picture had a Camo with a Satin blade. But when you put it into the cart it describes the item as coming with a black blade. Secretly I was hoping for the black and was very happy when FedEx delivered it as such. Now I can order the Orange and swap blades. :D

Oh and Amazon prices are the best I could find. Free shipping no tax. and $20 cheaper than anything else on the web.

This thing dwarfs my full size Griptilian but doesn't feel any different in the pocket. I will be enjoying it as my new EDC.

wuhungsix....That is one sexy blade! I have the digicamo/blackblade para. I really love that combo. Probably the best color combo IMO.

Orange is pretty cool also though...it all comes down to personal preference.
 
The Camo G-10 is nicer than I thought it would be. I love the translucent look to it. Mine has the satin blade but they both look nice. I couldn't be happier with the Military. I can't find a flaw anywhere or really any design aspect to nit pick and I'm very picky. It is amazing how it "shrinks" on you. My Sage1 immediately started to feel small and the Military feels just right although the Sage feels just right also, just small. :)

I just hate Spyderco for giving me so many choices in Millies. Sometimes I wish they would just limit them to black in PE or combo. Save me a bunch of grief from the Mrs.
