I'm looking for a nontoxic, food grade lubricant for my folding knives. As such, mineral oil comes to mind. What are the pros and cons of using mineral oil (sold as laxative) as a knife lubricant?

Just do a search for mineral oil on the forum and you'll find the answer.

But it's the best option for a food grade oil for knives. Specifically mineral oil usp which can be found as a laxative in most pharmacy isle.

I just don't want it to cause problems in axis/able locking mechanisms

Mineral oil is fine to use but like any other oil use it sparingly on a knife.

Any oil if too much is used will attract crud.

Norton's mineral oil is safe ... not expensive but probably a bit more than an off brand in your pharmacy.

And mineral oil can attract dust/lint/etc a bit more then some lubricants but use it very lightly and keep up maintenance on your knives you shouldn't have any trouble.
