Mini Commander Problem

I own a mini commander, its a great knife but one thing that upsetting is the bolt pivot. No matter what I do the pivot bolt loosens up after a few uses during the day. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this problem. It's quite annoying for the price I paid for this knife. Even if the tighten it up it will loosen past the sweet spot. Then the detent becomes horrible and too weak. Also there a whistle like sound when I open the knife or close it. NEED HELP!!!!

You can take out the pivot and put a drop of BLUE LOCTITE on the threads. Find your sweet spot and let it dry. As for the squeaking there may be dirt inside. Since your unscrewing the pivot you can put a few drops of your favorite oil inside as well. Froglube and TriFlo work great. Hope this helps.

To cure the whistle just disassemble the knife and clean everything (washers, tang, inside of scale) then use a lube of your choice. As far as pivot getting loose, just put a drop of blue loctite. It will not void your warranty. The mini commander is one of my favorite emerson knives. You have a good knife well worth the money.

Welcome to the Emerson sub forum. If this is your first Emerson Knife you can read the sticky, located HERE, and it will tell you a lot about owning an Emerson and some useful tips.

Ive taken it all apart and the whistle is still there after cleaning and putting lube on it

It might be the detent balls that are squeaking. Ive never had a squeaky Emerson before. You can try a drop of lube on the detent balls themselves and that might stop the squeak.

ok I tried a drop of lube and it didnt fix it. I'm about to give up on this knife. I stripped the knife and cleaned a 3rd time. I'm fed up with the whistle that is happening..... I've tried cleaning and stripping it all down. Then using a drop of lube. The squeak isnt going away. This is pissing my off............

If it truly bothers you, send it in to Emerson and they will fix it. Ive never heard of anyone having this problem but EKI will take care of you.

I have the squeaking problem with my Commander and CQC-10. I have tried cleaning and oiling multiple times as you have but cannot get rid of the noise. It bothered me at first but after using the knives a bit don't really care anymore. Both have black blades so maybe things just need to be worn in more?

Could you post some pics of the inside of the liners and both sides of the blade tang when disassembled? If there is something obviously wrong somebody here might be able to tell.

Something has to be rubbing to cause the squeak. If some lube didn't help something else may be going on. Some pics might show us where it is rubbing.

It is a long shot but maybe a detent ball has fallen out causing the metal of the liner or the lock bar to rub on the tang. IF that is the case EKI will fix it dude.

See if you can post the pics.

The squeak isnt going away.

It will go away, there isn't anything wrong with your knife.

I've had two Emerson folders recently with a really annoying squeak. I don't think it has anything to do with lubrication, but it did go away after opening and closing the knife several hundred times, then disassembling for a good cleaning.

I am sure it is the detent balls, because if I hold the lock back with my fingernail there is no squeak. I believe that it is from the stonewashing, or something to do with the surface of the steel or the detent balls, that just wears smooth after breaking in.

Both of my squeakers were stonewashed satin finish, anyone have a black coated squeaker?

My CQC-7 AW (stone washed) had a squeak.

Cleaning and lubing with Frog Lube solved my issue - not saying that it'll fix every similar issue but I did lube the detent balls too...

Hope it all works out as the Mini Comm. is a heck of a knife!

Best,

Ben

My Tiger BT has the detent squeak almost like the fork scraping a plate sound. I haven't bothered to lube it since the knife is smooth.

I'm the 3rd owner of this knife, I'd think it would of worn in by now. The blade date is 2013. Its smooth but the squeak is annoying. I will try to post a video here if I can.

I've an older Mini-Commander BT (bought circa 2001), with a black blade. No squeaking ever. It could be a problem particular to the stonewashed blades, as someone suggested.

Anyways, I spoke with a kind lady at Emerson and she wants me to send it to them. And thats what I'm going to do

Glad to hear you gave them a call. Sending it in would be the best route given the information you have posted. Folks at EKI will get your knife dialed in all proper!
