Mini Dejavoo with a crap lock

I have the mini Dejavoo and I think the lock sucks. I'm disappointed with BM on this one. I sent it back to BM thinking I got a lemon and they sent it back in the same condition, apparently this is the way the knife locks. Anyone have a similiar experience?

Liner locks are liner locks. I don't buy them anymore no matter how much I like a knife. Not saying they are bad....I use knives with reverse position and the liner locks tend to disengage due to thumb pressure. They are not for me... The Dejavoo design temps me and I love the designer and blade shape but would never buy one based on the lock. I recommend a SageII or Calypso from Sypderco. Chock it up to experience....sorry

I love my 745 the lock on mine is fine for edc .. Plus it's made of titanium !! Gorgeous knife made if top notch materials , s30v g10 ti and perfect fit and finish

I didn't find the liner lock all that bad, just the total lack of retention into the handle.

The 740 is high on my list. The LFTi has really woken me up to the masterful design of Bob Lum, and the 740 is next on my list.

Nutnfancy has a video about the lock on the 740 on youtube, but that hasn't deterred me. I have found that you can adjust a liner-lock. All you have to do is disassemble the knife, and bend the lock inward a little, so it pushes harder against the blade tang. You'll void your warranty but you'll fix your problem.

The thread title is misleading IMO..........I though BM had come out with a cool new lock :grumpy:

The Dejavoo is an amazing knife, it is definitely a shame that the blade retention blows and the lock is a little weak. I did disassemble mine to push in the lock and it does help with both issues.

In the end though, it's definitely a gentleman's knife IMO. The overall smoothness of the knife doesn't make it too suitable for heavy use.

watch the video choji posted and bluntruth's fix may help.

Did the knife open when you didn't want it to?

Did the lock fail while you were using it?

The 740 and 745 are great designs, except for the lock. Absolutely terrible, at least in my experience. I'm looking for the HK Lum version, I believe that's a frame lock.

This is the first time from anyone I have heard problems with the 745 lock. I have a 740 & 745 and know many who do as well. I’m a huge fan of this model and had nothing but good luck with it’s lock.

But that has nothing to do with the OP’s problem. I am interested in knowing. Other than sucks or crap. Last time I think anyone will ask.

Yeah, my 740 also very secure in the open position, just as much as my Spyderco Military. Blade retention [edit: IN THE CLOSED POSITION] is a little light, but that doesn't bother me since I'm not swinging it around on the end of a rope or anything.

Back to the topic at hand.... Parker77, what is wrong with your 745?

Never failed on me during use; despite being kinda thin, the titanium liner lock sticks nicely to the tang and feels secure. Out of the box, the liner lock felt a little too easy to disengage.

It did open a couple times when I didn't want it to before adjusting the lock. Once was right out of the box when I received it(was about quarter way open), the other was when i dropped it onto a table literally about 2 inches above the surface.

The lock on the Mini Dejavoo I had could have been disengaged by a strong breeze....OK, that is an exageration, but, not by much. I like liner locks in general but that one was pretty much crap.

Mine has impeccable lock-up. Detent is strong as well.
I think you got a lemon, and they sent you your lemon back with an excuse.
That sucks, because it can be a sweet knife.
Yet another knife that it would be wise to purchase in person, where you can inspect it.
