Drew,
You're only 15 hours away from Knob Creek, why not make a week of it and come down. You can stay with me ;)

:D:D

That's a very tempting offer Eric. I've still got 23 vacation days available and Yahoo maps says its only 12 hours (770 miles) to West Point, KY. I'll contact you this weekend.

Thanks!

Drew, make the trip, its well worth it! I wish I could get there this spring, hopefully next fall.

"Through hardened........battle rats"

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I thought for those big blades the differentially tempered blade meant that the cutting edge was strong but the back of the blade was more ductile to allow it to get whacked.

Hi Gillean,

Someone asked a similar question on Rat Chat. This is my response from there. I hope you don't mind me recycling. ;)

----

What I remember from previous discussion was that differential tempering helps longer blades take impact abuse and flex while prying. With a longer knife hardened to 60+ rc this is a huge benefit because knives that hard become brittle.

With Swamp Rat's hardening process, I recall them indicating that they never had problems this fragile behavior with their larger through hardened blades, but they differentially tempered them just for the added assurance.

I don't really believe that one way is always better than another given the Swamps heat treat and cryo. But to some it may be preferred.

Hope that helps and I hope that I stated these things accurately. :footinmouth:

You need info Troy? Well here's some....I'm driving down for the show, and unless Garth holds something back for sale on the web, your just ROL. (That's Rat Outta Luck. :D )

Once I decide which one's I want to keep I'll put the rest up on the BF For Sale page; but it may take me a month or so. :p ;)

I totally appreciate the sentiment Drew, but I'm actually hoping to have the knives in my hands by that time (Eugene Show ;)). I was hoping for pics NOW.

:finger:

^d'oh!! Spark must not have activated that particular smiley yet. ;)

Troy -- I'll Roschambo you for them, South Park style. I'll go first. :D ;)
