Mini-flashlights

I'm not really into flash lights so forgive me if this question sounds stupid. Is the Arc AAA as bright as a mini mag (the one with two AAs)?

The Arc AAA, being an LED, is not at bright as the double-AA MiniMag, but will give you useable light for a longer period of time. Different lights for different purposes.

Thanks cardimon! Is it bright enough to use while camping? I mean will it put off enough light to set up a tent, collect wood, and find your way down a wooded path?

The Arc AAA is bright enough to walk around in the woods at night and perform various camping tasks. I suggest using an LED Headlamp to perform tasks because it allows you to have your hands free. I recommend keeping the Arc AAA in your pocket as a back-up.

I agree with what dkochan says.

By the way, dkochan, love your websites, but my want list keeps on growing! Grin.

Thanks for your response dkochan. The reason I was looking at the Arc AAA was because it has that little clip on it, I could just clip it to the bill of my hat. I also like the fact that I could just slip it into my pocket while camping and never have to think about it until I wanted it. I'll take a look at those headlamps too. Thanks for the help!

Although the ARC AAA is not as bright as a 2AA Maglite, the light spreads better and it's more uniform. Even though it isn't as bright in absolute terms, in subjective terms I would rather use the ARC for most purposes, even if they were the same size and weight and had the same battery life. The Maglite's only advantage is it can cast farther if you focus it down to a narrow spot; at close range the ARC is preferable.

Now the Arc AA can be pre-ordered, and I'm guessing it will be receiving more of the luxeon-oriented mods that people wanted in their AAA models due to previous size limitations.

I like the AAA a lot as a small light now that I've been able to use it on my keychain while out for a walk at night. Inside it can be hard to appreciate how much useful light these little things put out, and the sheer convenience of being able to use and replace AAA batteries.

Lights can be cool :D
