Mini grip blade differences

Guys,

I think I may just be uninformed on these knives because until today I didn't own one. The question I have is: do the blade "depths" differ from one version to another?

You can see what I mean in the picture below. If you look at the end of the cutting edge (on the side closest to the grip) the choil on the black blade is not as deep as the choil on the satin one. It's actually significantly different...What would be the reason for the difference? I can't imagine the black could have been sharpened that much and still look so new?

Enlighten me oh wise men of the forum!!!! (And before anyone says it, I used the search box rather unsuccessfully before I posted [emoji52]). Also, I realize the pivot screw is flipped on the black bladed one, it came that way.

I see a difference. The hole on the coated blade even looks larger. Definitely a different grind. I have to wonder if this isn't normal variation in manufacturing, depending on when each knife was made? I'm a little concerned about the pivot pin...I thought there was a "flat" on a Grip that could only go in one way? I may be misremembering...

I wondered about the flat on the pivot pin also. I don't actually have the knife in my hands yet but I will probably take it apart to check that out when I get it

I think the holes are the same size, here's another picture. May have been shadow play in the first photo. But the blade "depths" are obviously different. The blue versions grind actually extends slightly into the handle also.

Don't be fooled by optical illusions that can be created by different colors and angled.

Get a ruler or micrometer and take accurate measurements.

Almost all blades are finished by hand. Look at enough blades and you'll start noticing lots of subtle differences.

This is my favorite version of the minigrip. While the modified sheep's foot looks slightly different, it may be due to the hand finishing.

Looks like someone took some extra time to grind the tan one. Since they are done by hand there will be small differences. Benchmade must have some tolerance limits and you may have 2 knives on extreme ends of those tolerances. It would be interesting to see if both of these are within specs

Well I have carried it for 2 days now and it performs really well. Just interesting that the 2 are visibly different.

There are also two different 550 blades, a hollow ground 154CM and then there are saber ground D2 and S30V options from what I recall drooling over.
