Mini Grip vs. Mini Presidio - pls. help me decide...

I have the Mini Grip:

I can't comment on the Mini Presidio because I don't have one, but the Mini Grip is GREAT folder for EDC. It's just not perfect for me because for my hand it's on the small side, I prefer something a bit longer. But if you'rre looking for a small folder, you can't go wrong with it.

Gotta love good images.... nothing better than a great visual. Thanks for the pic.

For a small AXIS lock the 707 is pretty darn nice. The new bone collector looks like it might be basically an upgraded grip. At least worth taking a look at.

FlaMtnBkr.... thanks for those suggestions. Yes the 707 Sequel really does look awesome (2.95" blade, 2.6 oz., axis lock, 154CM steel)... spec-wise, it's right in line with what I'm looking for... thinner and lighter than my mini Barrage.

The mini Bone Collector looks great as well, but at 3.46 oz. is a fair bit heavier than I want for this particular acquisition.

In my experience, 154cm is much better steel than 440C and holds an edge much better. It is similar to VG10 in edge holding, and you can't do a lot better and have a knife that is not too hard to sharpen.
I have a miniGrip, and won't buy any knives in 440C.

Thanks arty... another vote for Griptilian (or the 707 Sequel for its 154CM blade).

I don't have enough experience with knife steels to know for myself, but the consensus seems to be that 154CM is better than 440C.

I have read, however, a number of posts of people saying that Benchmade's implementation of 440C results in a generally very good blade.

If you're lookig for "the smallest lightest bm" you should look at the 530 it is something like 1.88oz

The Government... thanks for that.. an excellent read!

Well.. I decided on the 556 mini-Gript over the 527 mini Presidio because I wanted the slightly smaller form and lighter weight.

Now I'm trying to decide between the 556 mini-Gript vs. the 707 Sequel. They are very close spec wise with the most obvious difference being the 707 has a thinner handle and about $30 more in price.

Any thoughts on the 556 vs. the 707?

I owned a mini grip but sold it last year. I missed having an axis lock knife so I picked up a sequel this year. I definitely like the sequel better because of the aluminum handle. It has a thinner profile than the minigrip and looks a little classier. The minigrip would be more comfortable if your are doing long periods of cutting but it is a bit short so if you do a lot of cutting a full size griptilian would be better. Either knife will perform the same so my vote for the sequel is more for aesthetics. JMO. Good luck!

You have all been so helpful and opened my eyes to some great possibilities I hadn't considered. I think I'm going to make this choice a 707 Sequel as the use would be light duty and the desired carry is for small and light.

But as a result of the suggestions here, I think a Bone Collector or the Ritter Grip (?) is in my future as well. Like flashlights and guns, there are so many wonderful choices... we're so fortunate, aren't we!

One thing I suggest is after you get it put some blue loctite or some plummer's teflon tape on the pivot screw as it can loosen with the constant flicking open many of us here like to do.

Oh man, good point. My wife and are doing a fair bit of flicking with the new knives (Sage, Leek, mini Barrage, BM 943)! ;)

Even though it has a slightly longer blade, the Osborne 960 is noticeably thinner and lighter than the 707, and has a deeper pocket clip and the thumbstud and axis lock is easier to engage/disengage. I have 556, 707, and 960 and the 960 is my favorite except for the funky blade shape.

Dave... I don't see the 960 in the BM catalog... which one is that?

Edited to add: I found one on the internet. Is that a discontinued model?

cave dave... after much consideration, I decided on a silver handle 960 and found a new one on eBay for $130 shipped. The super slim body and super light weight is just what I was looking for. Axis lock. Great steel. Beautiful design. I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival!

Thanks to all for the comments. No doubt a mini grip will find its way to me at some point as well. So many wonderful knives, so little money.
