Mini Griptilian price?

Ok I'm looking for no problems here. Anyone looking for cheaper price go with china & see what warranty you get, unless it's through BM, Spyderco, Kershshaw. ect.You pay what you get, it's not a perfect world. It's only knives. I try to buy American. GC

:excitement: Hahahaha, expecting a response from Benchmade; maybe when hell freezes over. They've ignored everyone and have given no reasoning to their recent MAP fiasco.

That is true, however, they don't have to give those of us here an explanation for the increase. It would certainly be nice if they did though...

The truth of the matter is, the number of us here on BF's that would like to know why, are such a miniscule part of their overall sales, they probably don't think it really matters if we are happy with the change or not...

Well at least I got a couple BM's before the huge price hike. At my age they will surely last the rest of my life. My plans of starting a BM collection however has now gone by the way side.

last spring i bought 7 mini grips off a guy for $45.00 a piece all n.i.b. at a small knife show in Ohio. I then sold 5 of them boy do I wish I still had them, can't replace them or find any at that price now. Heading back to the same show in April can't wait to see his prices this year.

That's why I'm sitting with what I've got K. With not much to trade or sell (because replacing them isn't as easy as it used to be price-wise) and a healthy historical collection to boot. Was I just starting in, I would be more selective than I was when I started, and the focus would be on old-school and maybe some of the Limited's from the last few years.

Was I able to ask for new knives, I would request more affordable models offered to us, and not just the current high-dollar knives so many of us can't touch. There used to be more EDC Blue and Black class offerings of interest. If they (BKC) can make knives like the HK Soldat, they could easily up the blade steel and materials, yet keeping it simple. Just my thoughts this morning.

There is a lot going on here with this MAP pricing. But the bottom line for me is that I'm not going to pay $100 (or whatever) for a dang mini Griptilian. I pulled the trigger last night on a 550HG large Griptilian (sheeps foot, Spydie hole) for $79, because it apparently is pre-MAP pricing and I knew it was now or never. But Benchmade has pretty much priced itself out of my buy-zone. So for me, at least, this new pricing strategery has back-fired. Benchmade knows what its business model is, but I know what my business model is as well, and the two are not compatible.

Plus, the whole notion of price-fixing offends my laissez faire, free market sensibilities, but that's for another forum.

Well said Sir.

+1. Nicely said.

exactly, I find it humorous people expect Benchmade to explain them to "why", I mean, I'm sure there are reasons for this and BM has considered the backlash, but in the overall picture, they expect this to work for them. It's a complex issue I'm sure and I don't think they did it just to "stick to their customers" or that they "just don't care",

if you don't feel good about the purchase, simply don't buy the knife. Demand goes down, hopefully the price goes down too;)

I thought about it long and hard and decided I won't be buying any more bm knives. They're poor qc and insane prices did it. Unless I can get one $60 on ebay no mini grips for me.

I thought it was to cover the cost of return shipping for service / life sharp that they now offer free...

These are my thoughts completely! I just got several BMs off the bay where some folks have not implemented the drastic price increases (Contego, 710) because I knew the prices would eventually go up. Both are NIB and $25-$30 less than the current prices at the big online knife stores. I must say the fit and finish on these blades are great, all my BMs are so I can't comment on the current down turn in QC. Now, as prices on the bay are catching up the only place I will consider a BM is on the used market. BM has priced themselves right out of my pocket while other companies are coming out with new cool stuff at what I consider a reasonable price (Kershaw).

Derrick -

As always, we appreciate your participation a great deal. Here's the thing I'd ask you all to focus on. While we understand that the dealer network is very important, ultimately it is *customers* that drive the bottom line. It is beyond obvious that Benchmade customers, many of us very long-time and loyal customers, have been very unpleasantly surprised by the recent change in retail pricing. I'd urge you to share that concern within the company. Obviously, you all have sales data (or will, after this perks through the pipeline) that we don't have, but from where we stand, it's a very serious issue - as I think all the posts in the various threads here make clear. We *want* to be customers - don't push us away.

+1 here. Well said.

I have a good size list of Benchmade wants. But I made that list with last year's online dealer price model in mind. I have a threshold on what I will spend on any given blade, and with the new increase, most of that list is now off the table for me. I would love to continue to support Benchmade this year, but under current conditions, my money will be spent elsewhere.

Last month, I started reading about BM products and wanted to start adding them to my collection. I got a pre- owned 940 and thought I was on my way. I then started reading about all this restructuring of the pricing from the dealers.

Quit frankly, your product is not worth the current pricing. Prior to the restructuring, it seemed it was a good value. If it matters, you've lost a new customer. I know I'm a very small fish in a big ocean, but if others decide to vote with their wallet as well, we can send a message to BM that will get their attention.
