Hey all I finally bought myself a Mini Griptilian and have been EDCing it all this week, and I gotta say I am incredibly surprised by this sub 3" knife, I like it so much I thought I'd share it's performance and hopefully recommend it to anyone considering buying it. For the price I don't think you can get much more cool! in such a little package, this is from someone who carries a Manix 2 and case Peanut on a daily basis haha So I get the best of both worlds :o

I'm not usually the type to buy a knife and immediately be an expert on it and review it, but I've owned so many knives and used them so much that I know when I have a good one and after a little use I know what to expect from it after.

Since buying it I have discovered that 154CM is super easy to sharpen and I am impressed with it's edge holding ability, I have used it to carve into some pretty tough treated wood, cut up a ton of cardboard boxes, constant paper cut tests, slice up fruit, and even trim the screen protector on my iPod Touch, and it has stood up remarkably well to it's initial abuse.

After the wood carving I discovered two tiny nicks in the blade, that very well could have been made by a staple or pieces of metal stuck in the wood, and I touched it up after that on my strop, then later proceeded to cut up a bunch of cardboard with perfect ease and it kept it's beautiful hair-whittling edge after that, then after using the tip to cut into a plastic screen protector over a glass screen all it did was roll the edge a bit, this was all before I did a thing to the edge from the factory other that a strop on either side three times.

And that's after constant Paper Cutting Tests in my state of the art Research and Development lab...or futon whichever comes first, there were some magazines involved too :foot:

Finally I decided to reprofile and polish the edge (the nicks and tiny roll were just bugging me) and it got really screamin sharp! About like it was out of box. Except with a better geometry

Overall I love this little blade, it's smaller than it's big brother the Griptilian, about half the size, and something I noticed is that the Mini Grip has full stainless liners, compared to the Grip that has half stainless liners under it's Noryl GTX handle, I like that fact because it just seems to make it feel more balanced and solid in the hand, the Axis lock is downright addicting! And it's super smooth opening and closing it even after many hundreds of flicks. With smaller blades I prefer thumbstuds but I did handle the thumbhole version and it was super easy to open and close with it.

The only gripe, and yes I mean only, is the durned black painted pocket clip :p I might buy a deep carry titanium pocket clip for it later, but for now this one will do.

Well that's my experience so far and I expect many long weeks of use out of this little reptilian cutting machine! :D

It posed for some photographs (I think the blue is very attractive):

Let me know what you think, and if you've had any critiques from this little blade in your experience!

Thanks for looking,

Zach

I'll start by saying I love high dollar knives. I have 3 sebenzas, a strider smf, and a hinderer xm18. I think they are absolutely worth the price. But nothing in my collection is better value for the dollar than my mini Ritter grip. The blade they put on that thing is just perfect. If I knew the zombie apocalypse was around the corner, I'd gladly trade 3 of the high dollar knives for a dozen mini ritters

I was suprised by how much I liked it when I first held it. Very awesome little edc knife, especially for the price. Great gateway benchmade for sure.

I have had great results from my mini grips. I have one in D2/drop point (Cabelas special), and one in 154CM/sheepsfoot. Both have handled everything I have thrown at them with ease. I prefer the thumb stud also.

I think a Ritter mini RSK is in my future.

The griptilian knocked all other production knives out of my pocket and it wasn't particularly close. Great knife for the money.

I really enjoy mine :)
I do think it is priced accordingly

I dislike Axis locks, but I really like that bright blue color there... might have to consider picking one up one day.

I love, love, love the mini-grip. It, and its big brother, are two of the greatest bang for your buck you can get.

Opinions by definition can't be wrong, but how on Earth is it that you don't like the axis? It's easy to manipulate, strong, and the opening action is beyond smooth. It is, without a doubt, my favorite lock.

It's nothing wrong with the lock, the problem lies with the law. ;)

i love my mini-grip. its my edc and being a little smaller of a blade doesn't cause a "ohhh my" reaction from my coworkers.

Nice pictures - thanks!

Yes - I have a mini griptilian and I agree with everything you have said about yours; it is a great little knife with capabilities that belie it's size.

I can recommend STR for a deep carry pocket clip, and he can anodize the ti clips to be pretty close to the color of your scales, if that is something you would be interested in seeing.

Here are some pictures of my 556 with my STR deep carry pocket clip in denim anodize.

Wow man that looks great! I think I'll have to go to STR for one very soon, one question do these have a reputation for bending easily? Or maybe easier than SS pocket clips? And I love the color perfect match I think :)

Thanks!

If you don't mind I would like some info on what to look for with my first benchmade knife. I see on benchmade's homepage they come with a few different steel blades? From what I have seen and think is correct the S30V is low end and the D2 Steel is the best with 154CM stainless steel blade falling somewhere in the middle. Am I correct or confused? => Thank You

The mini grip is a great EDC, I have one carry it most every day- just have two benchmades a mini grip and the "folding bowie" LFM.

Like them both.

I think you can get a good deal on the mini if you shop around. and will like it.

Hi Zach -

No, the STR clip is hardened ti, it is very rugged. I have never come close to bending this clip out of shape.

It is at least as strong as the factory clip, and I would bet it to be stronger.

by price of steel s30v is high end, then 154cm, then d2. they are all very good steels. the d2 is a semi stainless, the others are stainless. id go with the 154cm personally.

I have an orange Ritter Mini Grip and a black tanto Mini Grip. I love the Ritter for the weekends but I don't like carrying an orange knife at work. But orange is great in the woods. Lately I've really become a fan of the tanto point at work. The Mini Grip is a great knife for EDC. Not so big as to scare people, and big enough to get the job done.
