Mini Griptilian, too big for it's...pricetag???

I have a mini with the modified sheepsfoot blade in 154cm. Very smooth action, comfortable handle, easy lock, rugged blade grind. I like it and feel the value is good.
However, I prefer a full height blade grind because it slices and whittles better. Also, the corner of the handle broke off when dropped on linoleum floor off the table. The outer handle (at least on mine) is not fully supported by the ss linerd.

Hi Zach -

No, the STR clip is hardened ti, it is very rugged. I have never come close to bending this clip out of shape.

It is at least as strong as the factory clip, and I would bet it to be stronger.

Ok sounds great! Perfect for my needs :D thanks for the info.

From what I understand S30V is the higher end, 154CM is the all around steel, and D2 falls in the tool steel category so more for hard-use.

Really? That's interesting, have you contacted Benchmade about this to see if they will replace it? Maybe you have an older model w/o the full ss liners?

Pics would be nice.

If you don't like the painted clip, I don't either, you can take a Dremel with a wire wheel and it will strip the paint off very quickly. I've done that to all of mine that had painted clips, and IMHO it makes them look a lot better.

I got my first mini grip about 10 years ago. Like most, at first I thought it felt a little cheap. It didn't take long for that feeling to go away.

My first one was 440C. It was used hard, and for about 4 years it was my EDC. It never failed in any way. I'm going to get a Ritter mini grip, but this is my current EDC in S30V from the Build a Grip program.

That clip looks great - I like it.

It makes sense that a wire wheel would work as the finish seemed so "fragile" on the BM pocket clips.

Thanks for the picture.

A mini grip is my regular EDC as well, as I usually wear scrubs and the blue color matches well. My only issue with the knife is that the textured handle frays my jeans. Otherwise, it is a great little knife. I actually like the 154cm on this knife better than the S30 or S35 on my other knives.

That's a nice looking knife! What is the "build a grip program"?

Thanks.... Go to Benchmades website. You will be able to easily find it. There are many options. A lot of different colors, different blade steel, polished or black hardware, and different choices for the clips. You can also have engraving done.
They are a little pricey compared to standard mini grips, but if you really like them, it is worth it imho.

Thanks for the input all  keep it comin!

Yeah I might take a wire brush to it, that might look nice, only thing that would bug me is the black hardware against the shiny silver clip :D but I might try it.

The wire wheel on a Dremel will take the finish off of the hardware too :D

The Mini-Grip is one of my favorite knives. You might also contact Benchmade and see if they'll send you a parkerized / black oxide replacement clip. It is more of a matte finish, and it wears in well.
