Okay, you guys got me inspired. I went to my projects box and got out a Henkels stainless steel kitchen knife with a molded plastic handle. I got it at Goodwill for 99 cents, so we're off to a good start.
It was kind of like this one when I started:
I ground on the handle until I exposed the tang and got it fee. I took it to the belt sander and cut in from the sharp side to form the harpoon point and sharpened up both sides of the tip. I made some notches in the bottom to help hold lashing line and buffed them to take the sharpness out of the edges. That hook on the bottom is the factory tang. I finished up the edge on the Sharpmaker and it's done. The factory plastic slip sheath is fine for a PSK.
The finished "hpoon" is 6-1/4" long, stainless and weighs 0.4oz.
