Came across a very small hatchet in fairly rough shape. It's been raining quite frequently around here and I thought it would be a good time to see what I could do. Cleaned up the axe head and reblued it to my liking. Had to cut a slot in the handle and refit it. Made a small wedge out of wood. Modified the handle some. Scorched it with a torch. Dyed it with leather dye and tacked it up. Oiled up the handle. Made a nice plain cover for the head. Maybe I should have put a loop in the back for the belt, but it will probably get shoved under the belt or in a pack. Thought you all might enjoy the pics. I don't post many. There is no name on the hatchet, but has a nice ping when thumped. Regards,

you should run far........ far............ FAR away!!!

you have a pack of eveil killer gnomes somwhere on your property and they want their axe back!!!
all joking aside that is a cool little hatchet!

Thanks for the compliments. It was fun to do. I am guessing it is a small trappers axe. I would like to find a double bit one like it.

From its size, I would guess it is a Vaughn mini axe. I have an old Vaughn, a craftsman that size (I think Vaughn made for Craftsman), and a Bark River mini axe (which began life as a Vaughn mini). Forestry Suppliers sells replacement handles for them and I just picked up a couple this week. The eye is very small on the Vaughn's.

Nice rehab. I like the handle.

You just can't beat a Buck 106 Old Model with black Handle - light, fast and well balanced ! Bought 4 of them in 1987 because store was going out of business and and had "big sale" 50% off. So I splurged.! I have only used one of them through the years and the other 3 have been in my safe. Need to clean it out and sell some stuff and buy some new 'toys.

Nice job. sometimes that size hatchet is called a child's model.

Nothing like a child playing with a hatchet. Still will cut your hand off. Then again, I have seen 2 year olds with machetes playing around. Learn early I guess. You will get cut or smash your hand and you will learn. Sure looks like a nice pocket axe. I have an old marbles hatchet about the same size. Maybe saves the edge on your knife if you baton.
