Mini History of Cold Steel SRK and Recon Tanto

It looks like this one (that was identified as an early recon in another thread on this site)

Sounds like a genuine AUS8 version

Thanks Jux. I’ll take that as confirmation the Japan (only) marking was used by Cold Steel.
Also appreciate the confirmation it’s not VG1
..unless marked as other posts here note.

Any idea of the years the Aus8 japan version was produced?

Check the first post of this thread, it has that info.

Another question I have is my carbon V knife has a shoe string type wrap around the handle. I have seen two like this with the same wrap material both carbon v models. Does anyone know who did this wrap.

There have been a few models that came with cord wraps...True Flight Thrower, GI Tanto (briefly), etc, but don't think any in CV had cord wrap from the factory.

Thanks. Then two I have seen had identical warped handles. Same material same wrap style. Guess someone did it maybe a Navy seal thing who knows.

Dear Friends, first of all, I wish you a very Happy New Year!
I hope this is the right thread where to post this.
My questions: a very good friend of mine wants to buy a good not-so-big camping/trekking/I-would-say-a-little-fighting knife. He asked me for an advice, and according to the requirements he told me and, after some Cold Steel site surfing, the candidates are:
- either San Mai SRK or San Mai Recon Tanto;
- less probable, Warcraft Tanto San Mai Regular.
SRK and Recon Tanto prices are more or less the same, Warcraft Tanto price is very higher. So:
- I think SRK or Recon Tanto are more or less "the same" for steel quality and use cases, obviously the blade point are different. Recon Tanto is a little longer, so it is a little better for cutting and small branches chopping. Am I right?
- why Warcraft is so more expensive? Same steel and heat treatment, as far as I know, isn't it? Is the price difference just related to G10 handle and to the full tang design? Or does it have so better performances?

Thank you for your help and advice.
