"Mini" Manix, is length the only difference?

I really love my Native III, but I'm looking for something sturdier and with a little more blade for EDC.

During the week, I'm mostly wearing khakis/dockers type pants with Swiss Army Climber in right pocket and Native clipped to right pocket. Money, keys, change go in left pocket. I prefer tip-up carry. On the weekends and after work, it's usually jeans, cargo shorts or something like that determined by the weather.

I carry an all steel Colt Commander every day, so weight alone isn't an issue, but weight in the pocket on casual slacks vs. jeans might be.

That said, I'm tempted to go straight to a full size Manix, but am concerned about non-knife people reacting and the potential weight issue.

On the other hand, I don't want to sacrifice the blade, lock and overall strength of construction by going to the "mini" Manix.

So, is the smaller Manix just a little shorter, or is it also scaled down in other ways that would affect its strength?

Thanks!

P.S. Any other comments about Manix, mini Manix for EDC in my situation is appreciated.

Best,
Bob

IIRC both have skeletonized steel liners that are of the same thickness.

Otherwise they at least -feel- equally sturdy.

Identical construction as the full size, just a shorter blade and handle. This is what makes the mini such a power house in terms of strength.

If anything, the "Mini" is even stronger than the full sized. It has the same massive construction with a bit less length to provide leverage against the lock. The attached pictures show the only differences between the two knives, with the Mini on top of the Manix.

Wow, a picture is definitely worth a thousands words. Thank you VERY much for those pics, yablanowitz!

Since you seem to have both at hand, do you notice a significant difference in carrying one over the other?

I carry the full size more often than the mini simply because it fits my slightly oversize hands better. I find the shorter butt of the mini shifts the knife just far enough to make my fingers feel crowded unless I grip it at the choil. On the full size, I can grip it comfortably either way.

Agree with yablanowitz's assessment of their relative strength. Here's a side-by-side comparison and top down view, with a Caly 3 thrown in...

Thanks for the additional images, Paul. I ordered the full size from Lighthound yesterday afternoon, then debated with myself all evening. I called this morning to change my order to the mini. Should be here in a few days.

I'm sure the new catalog will come out tomorrow and the 95mm will be discontinued, so I'll have to turn around and buy one of those too. But... such is life. :-)

Thanks for all the info.

Well, I decided to just buy both. If one is discontinued, I'm set there, and if not... I'll keep the one I like more. Hurry up, Mr. Postman. :)

Congratulations, you are officially addicted! :D

It's always nice to see someone else apply my standard solution: when in doubt, buy both ;)

YVW cortopar, think you'll be happy you decided to give them both a try.

Whoa, did you ferret take that picture, it seems unusually out of focus for a Paul Picture...

:D
JFC, everyone's a critic. Thank you for yet another helpful contribution Darren.

Thanks to you, I couldn't order a full-sized Manix from Lighthound, they are all gone 'cause you bought the last one. LOL
I had to grab the last mini left... It's all good though.

Thanks to YOU I couldn't order a mini from them, cause YOU bought the last one! :-) I called them to change my order to a mini, and they did. Then they called back and said they couldn't fill the order because "someone else" *ahem* had already bought the last mini. So, I had them just ship the full size and I bought the mini elsewhere (Rocky Mountain Knives).

Both shipped USPS Priority yesterday, so hopefully I'll have them by tomorrow or Friday.

I hope you enjoy your Mini. :)
