Ive recently fallen very hard for the Manix 83mm,So hard in fact that I bought two in the span of 5 days. I plan on buying another if everything goes according to plan, but i have a packaging question. I received my second Manix in the mail today and noticed a difference in the labeling. My original Manix 83 had the letters FG next to the SKU# and under the knife name on the side of the box. My more recent Manix purchase has the letters HF in the same spot. What do those letters mean? Is there some sort of difference in the two knives? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

That's the date of manufacture.

First letter: month. A = Jan L = Dec
Second letter: year. A= 2001 G= 2007

So your Manixes are manufactured in:

HF = August 2006

FG = June 2007

Dennis

PS: Fairly new, both of them :-) Just checked: Mine says LE ;-)

Wow, thats really interesting. I never would have guessed that the letters were a "born on" date! How did you find this out if you dont mind me asking? Im thinking of purchasing another one that doesnt have the spyder symbol on the blade. Do you think that means its an original production model? Is this date Etched anywhere on the knife(or do you still have the packaging)? Pictures will be forthcoming, the camera is chargin as I type!

Yes, I think the earliest models did not have the Spydie lasered in. Didn't have one in my hands though, can't say exactly when they changed that. It must have happened before 12/05 (LE) since mine has it already.
